The Faculty of Science and Mathematics in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Genetics/Genomics. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty dedicated to quality instruction and groundbreaking research. Primary responsibilities are to lead courses, engage in extramurally-funded research, create innovative learning experiences, advise students, and provide service to the unit, college, and university.  

The Assistant Professor position is a benefits-eligible appointment with tenure implications. This is an academic-year appointment with an expected start date of August 16, 2022. The teaching assignment is typically two (2) courses (6 credit hours) per semester; course load and composition are determined by the faculty head. Salary is competitive, commensurate with experience.

ASU’s College of Integrative Sciences and Arts (CISA) is home to innovative educators who are guided by interdisciplinary inquiry, educational access, applied learning and student success. CISA has over 7,300 students in all levels of degree programs and over 300 faculty members. The Science and Mathematics faculty conduct research in biology, chemistry, physics and applied mathematics, we support students in three-degree programs and one graduate program and offer three minors and one certificate program.

 Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Biology or related field with an emphasis in Genetics, Genomics, or closely related area at time of appointment
  • Strong record of (or strong evidence of the promise of) scholarly research and publications
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  • Evidence of a commitment to meeting the needs of diverse/underrepresented student and/or community populations via research, teaching/mentoring, or service

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-doctoral experience
  • Clear potential to secure external research funding
  • Evidence of ability to establish collaborative research relations with industry partners
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Experience teaching in-person and in digital environments (incl. synchronous and asynchronous)
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment and across disciplines
