Director of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Accreditation

Summary: The National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension.

Duties: Institutional research is a critical academic support function, fulfilling university - and program-level requirements in the following areas: data management and analysis, reporting, and assessment. Institutional research facilitates evidence-based planning and decision making, ensures compliance with accreditation standards, and fosters a culture of continuous institutional improvement and effectiveness. The Director of Institutional Research, Assessment, and Accreditation is responsible for developing, leading and managing a comprehensive institutional research and assessment program at the College of Information and Cyberspace (CIC). As the program lead for institutional research, assessment and accreditation, he or she provides direction for data governance strategies and policies, assessment policies and practices, accreditation compliance and institutional reporting. Specific duties in each area include:

Institutional research - leading and implementing a comprehensive program of data management, analysis, presentation and reporting.

Assessment - assessment of student learning outcomes, development of assessment policies and plans, collaboration and consultation with faculty and leadership on assessment and use of assessment results.

Accreditation - maintaining program accreditation, to include: monitoring compliance with standards, fulfilling reporting requirements, providing accreditation expertise to others.

This is a Non-Critical Sensitive position which requires a background investigation. The individual selected for this position is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security determination to occupy a Non-Critical Sensitive position.

Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in educational methodology, educational measurement, higher education administration, information systems, applied statistics or related discipline required.

A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in assessment planning and implementation, data analysis, and reporting experience in an academic environment.

Thorough knowledge of institutional research and assessment principles and techniques and skill in their application.

Expert knowledge and application of higher education and assessment theory.

Record of independent analytic writing, research and engagement.

Demonstrated experience with institutional and program accreditation procedures and preparation of self-studies.

Aptitude for collaboration within and across all areas of the institutional organization, and the ability to develop relationships and coordinate with leaders across government and industry.

Demonstrated experience consulting with faculty and higher education leadership to facilitate curriculum development, strategic planning, and evidence-based decision making.

Demonstrated expertise in student assessment and development of rubrics.

Desired Qualifications: Terminal degree from an accredited college or university in educational methodology, educational measurement, higher education administration, information systems, applied statistics or related discipline

Knowledge and application of education and assessment theory as applied to JPME.

Demonstrated experience teaching at the graduate level, preparing and delivering lectures and seminar instruction.

  4. Please provide examples of your experiences that address the following factor: Experience in achieving or maintaining institutional and/or programmatic accreditation at a higher education institution, including policy development and participation in self-studies.
