The Department of Classics at Washington and Lee University invites applications for a two-year visiting position at the rank of assistant professor.

The successful candidate must be able to teach Latin at all levels, as well as Classics courses that reach a broad audience of non-majors. Preference will be given to those candidates whose interests lie in ancient history. A teaching load of 2-3-1 will include four Latin language courses and two Classics/Ancient Mediterranean history courses. Our calendar consists of two 12-week terms and a 4-week May term where pedagogical innovation is encouraged and supported . We are especially interested in candidates whose research and teaching complement current strengths of the department. Candidates should have their Ph.D. in hand by July 2022 and show evidence of excellence in teaching and scholarly promise.

PhD required by time of appointment. Undergraduate teaching experience is highly desirable.
