    Department Summary
    The Division of Student Life supports the University's academic mission through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success, while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four departments, the University Career Center, Office of the Dean of Students, Erb Memorial Union, and Physical Education & Recreation, and a number of key programs, including the Holden Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Student Engagement & Success (Student Government), Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.

    The Office of the Vice President for Student Life provides the vision for and oversight of the Division's departments, programs, and initiatives. The Vice President's administrative staff provides key administrative, strategic, financial, human resources, and campus-wide student support.
    Position Summary
    The Payroll Technician is a part of the Division of Student Life HR shared services team, and reports to the HR Manager in the Office of the Vice President for Student Life.

    The Payroll Technician is responsible for the daily monitoring and processing of pay action entries in the Division's HR Shared Services portal. The portal is used by the Division of Student Life to initiate pay actions such as stipends, pay increases, labor distribution changes and final pay. The portal acts as a central hub for the collection of pay action requests and it is a critical tool which allows the Student Life Shared Services Hub to respond to the needs of the Division's units in a timely manner.

    This position is also responsible for monthly payroll processing for approximately 800 employees using an in-house, automated timekeeping system and the University's payroll system.

    Knowledge of personnel policies and procedures relating to payroll, and excellent communication skills in order to communicate these policies/procedures to a diverse campus population, are required to be successful in this position.

    The Payroll Technician assists the HR Manger in confidential personnel issues, is expected to maintain strict confidentiality at all times, and works collaboratively with the HR Manager to act as a liaison between the payroll office, human resources office, and units in the Division of Student Life.

    This is a full-time, 12-month position which may require occasional overtime during critical monthly payroll periods. This position is eligible for full-time remote work.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Eight (8) quarter (5 semester) or 80 clock hours of college-level accounting courses; OR
  • One year of general office experience including payroll processing (verifying, proofing, and entering data).

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years' payroll experience in a large complex organization.
  • Experience managing a payroll consisting of employee groups with differing guidelines, policies and/or bargaining agreements.
  • Two years' experience maintaining and working within a complex database system; analyzing data and creating reports, preferably within an automated time and attendance system.
  • Experience working with Kronos/UKG or an equivalent timekeeping system.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Windows-based applications; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
