Lighting Generator Specialist


Location: Moscow

Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, the incumbent of this position is responsible for ensuring back-up emergency generators and emergency lighting systems work properly in all campus buildings. Specific responsibilities include: weekly exercising and monthly testing of all campus emergency power generators; servicing fuel, oil, gearbox oil, antifreeze/coolant as needed and annual requirements; inspecting and repairs, scheduled and unscheduled repairs to maintain reliability for autonomous operation; record keeping, weekly and monthly written and computer entries for local and EPA requirements; lighting repairs.

    This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or University closure.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experienced in interpreting and determining: general building safety codes relating to fire doors, electrical safety, egress routes, emergency lights, fume exhaust systems, etc.
  • Experience working with: carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance; safety practices in moving heavy items.
  • Ability to utilize computer programs for doing daily work.
  • Experience using computer software and applications for word processing, email, internet searches, and data organization.
  • Experience reading and interpreting blue prints; keeping records pertaining to job functions and assigned areas; using good human relations skills; maintaining combustion/diesel engines.
  • Experience and ability to perform mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills relating to automotive and industrial engines, including ignition systems, cooling systems, charging systems, engine tuneup to include points replacement and adjustment and valve tappet adjustment in accordance with manufacturers publications, starting battery and cable maintenance.





Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of campus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience solving problems associated with point type ignition systems and basic engine tune-up and maintenance.
  • Experience interpreting electrical, fuel, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Experience with skills related to standard maintenance practices involving cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of spark ignition and compression ignition internal combustion engines.
  • Preferred experience working with other shops, to adapt new components in place of discontinued unavailable parts.





Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move items weighing 50 pounds, use safety practices in moving heavy items, bend, stoop, shovel, and climb and work from ladders.
  • Generators are generally located outside and are therefore subject to seasonal weather conditions from hot sunny to cold rain and deep snow conditions.
  • Climbing stairs and ladders to access rooftop generators through vertical and horizontal hatches.



Required Licensures, Certifications or other
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving University vehicles.
