Post-Doctoral Fellow/Research Faculty - Metallurgical and Materials Engineering



The Opportunity:



A post-doctoral fellow opportunity is available immediately in the Packard Research Group in the area of mechanics for microelectronics/controlled spalling. Funding is restricted to U.S.-born citizens. Position is open to a post-doctoral fellow or a researcher. Hours and length of contract are negotiable and allow for flexiblilty. The work location is on-campus at Colorado School of Mines.

Responsibilities under the direction from Dr. Corinne Packard:
  • Independently execute research and development of controlled spalling of single crystal wafers
  • Model, design and improve processes for controlled spalling
  • Maintain excellent safety, data management, and record keeping protocols
  • Collaborate with and manage junior graduate students in the research group
Qualifications:
Must have:
  • Experience in Mechanical modeling (for instance, finite element analysis, FEA, analytical modeling, stress modeling, multilayer modeling)
Great to have experience or interest in multiple areas below:
  • Clean room experience, including film disposition and photolighography
  • Wafer handling experience. 2”-6” experience, particularly in Ge, GaAs, or non-Si wafer technologies
  • Engineering/adapting custom fixtures
  • Electroplating experience
  • Materials metrology experience, including atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, curvature measurements, x-ray diffraction, contact and non-contact profilometry
  • Chemical etching and wafer cleaning experience, particularly specific to III-Vs
  • Process development for thin (<100 micrometer thick) film handling

Pay Range:



Salary: $55,000 - $60,000

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
