Technology Training Manager



Position Title Technology Training Manager The Opportunity

The Technology Training Manager reports to the Office of the CIO/dCOO Chief of Staff and works collaboratively with the Organization Change Management (OCM) team to implement the delivery of high-quality training as part of the Workday@Mines change management adoption strategy. They design and deliver training using approaches tailored to specific end-user groups; includes instructor led training, webinars, online computer-based learning, drop-in labs and web-based resources. Ensure ongoing training strategy is executed to sustain and address twice yearly Workday system updates using the most effective and efficient methodologies for Mines staff, faculty, and students. The incumbent will conduct needs assessments and designs, develops, tests, delivers and evaluates technology training programs for various software packages and specific University business applications including the Workday ERP and SIS unified solution and other integrated solutions. This position will partner with Business and IT Stakeholders to determine type/level, technology, topics and roll out schedule for Training, Communications, Change Management, etc. The role will also include evaluating the effectiveness of the training and performance support materials. This individual is responsible for developing strategies and technologies that leverage digital media to instruct and educate staff across the organization. Design and Development experience will include both web-based training (WBT) and instructor-led training (ILT) as well as the development of job aids and video learning. The delivery experience will include delivering classes for specialized end-user groups (i.e. executives, admins, faculty, etc.). This position will also provide performance support post-implementation to end users, work with the IT communications team to develop effective communication interventions. The position will supervise vendor delivered training and other staff charged with delivering IT related training.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning
  • Oversee the conceptualization, development, and layout of the appropriate technical infrastructure required to deliver digital and in-person learning content to Mines staff, faculty, and students
  • Coordinate with department heads and unit managers to assess departmental training needs and objectives.
  • Create, administer, analyze, and report on end user needs assessments and skills

  • Develop and coordinate an overall software application training curriculum for end users
  • of all levels.
  • Collaborate with executive team and unit managers to assess each department’s e-learning subject matter and training needs.
  • Recommends and/or implements innovative solutions, modifications and enhancements to technology training programs.
  • Work closely with the ITS executive management team in planning, directing, and implementing short- and long-range objectives, including budget planning, and evaluating results and progress toward implementing the ITS strategic plan.
Acquisition & Deployment
  • Assess, recommend, and purchase courseware packages, and support development of
  • appropriate courseware tools.
  • Participate in identification and recruitment of instructors and external course providers for specialized software training needs.
  • Conduct research into computer-based training products and services in support of development and purchasing efforts.
Operational Management
  • Design, develop, and deliver software applications training programs and individual classes.
  • Present instructor-led training sessions.
  • Develop and deliver new courses for new and existing software applications, including all course materials, exercises, and skills evaluations.
  • Review training materials and documentation and keep them up to date.
  • Create and communicate training schedules in consultation with departmental decision makers.
  • Establish and maintain a database to track training participants’ status and results.
  • Create and administer training event feedback mechanisms.
  • Analyze results, make recommendations for training improvement, and integrate changes in curriculum and/or courses.
  • Work with internal software developers to keep apprised of changes and upcoming developments in in-house software applications.
  • Communicate software problems and issues to software development and support teams.
  • Stay up-to-date with developments in both commercial and custom-built software products used in the organization.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
Change Management and Process Improvement:
  • Support the successful execution of the Workday training strategy
  • Supports the change management team with training planning and logistics management.
  • Create a Change champion network during and post-implementation for continued improvement and adoption
  • Conduct user experience sessions and journey maps to ensure adoption of new and existing technology and functionality
  • Conduct training sustainment and process improvement exercises to make sure end-users are well equipped and skilled in the use of technologies deployed
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Training, or related field and/or equivalent education and two years of experience in information technology.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of technology training experience
  • 4 years of experience with designing technical training programs and workshops
  • 4 years of experience with learning management software
  • Experience with training delivery for multiple stakeholder groups is required
  • Training needs assessment experience
  • Training schedule development experience
  • Training Guides experience
  • Virtual/Web/Online Training experience
  • End User Training experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Workday ERP is preferred
  • Experience with large-scale HR, Finance, & Payroll implementations is a plus.
  • Web-Based Training/Video tools experience is a plus (ex. Camtasia, PowToon, Video Scribe, Articulate, etc.
  • Workday HCM, Finance, and Student ERP experience

Pay Range

$75,500 - $87,200

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
