Position Title Director of the Center for Academic Advising Services The Opportunity

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Student Life, the Director of the Center for Academic Services & Advising (CASA) manages all aspects pertaining to undergraduate academic advising at Mines and academic support services within CASA. This management includes setting the strategic vision whilst providing the necessary leadership to accomplish set goals. More specifically, the Director will provide staff supervision, training, and development for all staff members. The Director will be the department liaison for faculty, Academic Affairs, the Registrar's Office, and all other university constituents. The Director supervises 3 professional staff members, indirectly supervises 10 Academic Advising Coordinators (AAC) and approximately 50 student staff members and is responsible for the department budget.

This is a full time, 12-month administrative faculty position.

Responsibilities

Management and Execution of Academic Support Services (25%; essential)
  • Design, management, lead, and assess CASA efforts meant to academically support students, including the known efforts of CSM275, Academic Coaching, Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Faculty in CASA, major exploration, small to large academic programming, and undergraduate research opportunities. Below ore further details related to advisement management and leadership:
    • Work collaboratively with Associate Directors to effectively execute academic support efforts.
    • Lead assessment and development of efficacious academic support efforts.
    • Serve on the CARE team and liaison with the SOS Director on best practices to support students in need, including leading and delegating outreach to faculty for said students.


Withdrawal, Readmissions, and Returning Student Support (10%; essential)
  • Process all full withdrawals from the University and manage notification process to students and campus constituents.
  • Support students who take a leave of absence from the University with proactive messaging once per term.
  • Attend all Readmissions meetings; Associate Directors will attend Readmissions when two or more Readmissions rooms are needed.
  • Advise all X-mines returning students.
Management and Supervision: (25%; essential)
  • Oversee the hiring, training & development, supervision and evaluation, and termination, if necessary, of all professional staff and paraprofessional staff members within CASA.
  • Provide developmental, ongoing, and supportive supervision to Associate Directors and, when needed, Academic Advising Coordinators (AACs).
  • Provide coverage, bock-up, and support for subordinates as needed, and when appropriate.
  • Be available after hours for supervisee needs while also supporting AD and AAC after commitments, programs, and events, as appropriate and decided with Assistant Vice President for Student Life.
Office Management and Advancement: (15%; essential)
  • In collaboration with Assistant Vice President for Student Life and CASA Administrative Coordinator, administer proper stewardship, projection, and authority of office funds and budget.
  • Assess & report all aspects of CASA, including but not limited to, retention and student learning outcomes.
  • Create & strategically coordinate all office marketing, publications, visible presence, and communication within the university and outside the university.
  • Update and maintain CASA web design, content, and marketing initiatives.
  • Assist as needed with all student life programs, events, and specialty weekends.
  • Aid and support to faculty and academic departments in need.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three or more years of budget stewardship and responsibility
  • Three or more years of professional supervision of multiple professional staff members
  • Five or more years of post-secondary / higher-education professional experience
  • Earned Master’s Degree
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and access via professional pursuits or endeavors
Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned or pursuit of a terminal or master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Demonstrable experience with assessment and research at a collegiate level
  • Previous multi-tier professional supervision
  • Advising or teaching experience with an engineering/sciences population
  • Experience teaching a credit-bearing class at a collegiate level
  • Strong organization skills, interpersonal, project management experience, public speaking abilities, leadership competencies, and significant computational skills

Pay Range

$73,900 - $87,700

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
