ICPSR Research Professor/Associate Research Professor/Assistant Research Professor

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) in the Institute for Social Research (ISR) at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time position) with a research focus on social or behavioral determinants of health or a related social science focus.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan maintains a number of long-standing research and data archiving projects and collaborates with other units on research projects. ICPSR is currently searching for a 12-month Research Professor which may be hired at any rank. (Research Professor/Associate Research Professor). The research faculty at ICPSR conduct research and contribute to the development of archived data collections and extramural funded projects to build data archiving infrastructure to support research activities.

This position offers a unique opportunity to serve as an integral part of Business and Collection Development at ICPSR with research and leadership responsibility for extramural research and infrastructure projects including a five-year project to build a Social, Behavioral, and Economic Research on COVID-19 Consortium Coordinating Center (SBECCC). The goal of the center is to expand collaboration and dissemination around National Institutes of Health-funded SBE research on COVID-19 and better address vulnerable populations and health disparities.

The position will lead the project and collaborate with investigators and staff at ICPSR and elsewhere to develop a consortium of researchers and projects working on SBE COVID-19 and help facilitate SBE data collection and wide dissemination of research data and findings on COVID-19.

Additionally, this person will contribute leadership on existing projects at ICPSR and will have an emerging to successful track record in developing extramural projects including research and projects aimed at collecting, managing, analyzing, or disseminating social, economic, and behavioral data related to health outcomes and determinants of health outcomes. Emphasis for this position is on someone wishing to support the mission of ICPSR and provide leadership with a level of independence in both the creation of new data resources and the development of infrastructure that advances and expands social and behavioral research. Rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s level of research experience and independence.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Sociology, Economics, Public Health, Human Development, Psychology or a closely-related field; demonstrated interest in and familiarity with social and behavioral research data preferred; experience with leading grants and contracts; strong leadership, communication, and administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail; proven ability to manage and analyze data of many types including survey or administrative data; familiarity with relevant software and research tools, and strong writing skills. The ideal candidate will join the project immediately.
