CTO Application Developer

Clinical Trials Office (CTO) Application Developer is a technical resource who supports Massey Cancer Center (MCC) and CTO’s custom software and reporting requirements. This developer coordinates with VCU and VCU Health’s research information technology teams while developing custom reports, migrating, integrating data from institutional systems and data warehouses, and builds tools that leverage this data in support of the mission of MCC and the CTO. This role works closely with the CTO OnCore Coordinator and CTO Metrics and Analytics Coordinator to provide tools and reports needed to perform various CTO business functions. The CTO Application Developer may also be tasked with developing stand-alone web applications as needed. This Coordinator reports to the CTO Administrative Director.

Typical Duties

This Coordinator reports to the CTO Administrative Director. The CTO Application Developer works closely with the CTO Administrative Director, CTO OnCore Coordinator, and CTO Metrics and Analytics Coordinator and with VCU and VCU Health’s research information technology teams. This role may also interact with other MCC staff who possess data sources that are to be integrated or warehoused, or who maintain other institutional systems that will be integrated. The CTO Application Developer may interact with external vendors related to applications within the CTO such as help desks (e.g., Advarra, CTRP) and user groups.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years software development experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Data skills including warehousing, ETL, integration, mapping.
  • Data interface skills using REST-based API.
  • Experienced and highly competent in SQL and in at least one Business Intelligence (BI) tool
  • Experienced full-stack developer for web-based access and presentation of analytic or BI data
  • Ability to communicate with technical and clinical teams to perform requirements analysis, develop specifications, resolve questions and track/debug issues.
  • Ability to communicate with the business teams and IT teams supporting the infrastructure, databases, and interfaces of the application to explain requirements and understand the business implications of technical decisions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, customer service orientation and proven ability to perform work accurately and efficiently.
  • Outstanding work ethic and excellent attendance record.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with the proven ability to multitask, troubleshoot and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other science/technology related area is preferred.
  • Software development experience in the healthcare or clinical trial industry is preferred.
  • Experienced and highly competent in Oracle is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with OnCore or other Clinical Trials Management Systems is preferred.
