Position Summary
This position reports to the Director of Specialty Programs and is a public service faculty position responsible for creating and delivering programs and technical assistance targeting minority business and entrepreneurs. The Business Consultant position requires a broad base of business knowledge, excellent analytical skills, an understanding of public/private financing programs, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to establish important network relationships around the state. These duties require the integration of business theory and practice. The person in this position is responsible for facilitating the delivery of minority business development programs to individuals, businesses, communities, organizations, and other public agencies within the state. Statewide travel is required.

Develop and deliver business-training programs that are responsive to the needs of the targeted business community. Generate curriculum for business programs, seminars, conferences, etc. Help local field officers determine topics, agendas, instructors, and instructional materials. Assist area offices in marketing their minority-targeted programs, focus on procurement and supply development. Serve as an instructor or facilitator for these programs. Evaluate programs’ effectiveness and make necessary modifications.

Research and review studies on minority business issues and make available to area offices around the state. In addition, assist with research efforts to maintain information on the minority communities of Georgia and disseminate to statewide area offices and state office staff.

Develop specific area(s) of expertise within the arena of minority business development. Apply this knowledge through new training programs, consulting tools, research projects, and/or other business assistance programs.

Work collaboratively with private-sector businesses, banks, other economic development assistance units of the University System of Georgia and other units of government to further the economic well-being of Georgia citizens.

- Document activities via Unity in a timely, accurate, and comprehensive manner. Collect and transmit consolidated Unity data. Maintain adequate client files as per SBA and SBDC guidelines.
- Furnish information to Director of OMBD for inclusion in the SBA Semi-Annual Reports and UGA Quarterly Advancement and Impact Reports.

Assist in the continued development, implementation, and updating of the organization’s strategic plan and division action plan. Ensure that goals and objectives of the division are accomplished in a timely and thorough manner. Work with division colleagues to develop and deploy annual division action plans that correspond with the organizational strategic plan, are tailored to meeting the specific small business needs with Georgia, and capitalize on the skills of division personnel. Prepare annual individual work plans, including professional development initiatives, which support division objectives.
