Job Summary/Basic Function

Millersville University is accepting applications for the Executive Chef for Dining & Conference Services Department. The Executive Chef is responsible for all production areas and their respective activities. These include a central production kitchen, which services a 650-seat residential student dining room, and an extensive catering program servicing a seven-room conference center and campus-wide catering services. Provides culinary support to multiple retail locations, including a food court and hybrid convenience store.

Annual Salary : $56,879 – $83,421 depending on experience, plus comprehensive benefits including:
  • Health insurance – Low bi-weekly premium. Employees pay 5% of bi-weekly salary for benefit coverage with ability to pay 2.5% when participating in the wellness program.
  • Dental insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days
  • Vision insurance – Coverage is free to employee and dependents after 90 days.
  • Group life insurance - equal to annual salary (up to $50,000) at no cost to the employee.
  • Voluntary Group Life and Accident Insurance – available for purchase at low rates for additional employee coverage as well as coverage for spouse and children.
  • Long Term Disability Insurance – available for purchase at low rates with either a 90 or 180-day waiting period.
  • Retirement – 2 plans to choose from.
  • Tuition waiver – employee, spouse, and dependents are eligible.
  • Vacation leave – up to 10.4 days accrued for the first year, increases to up to 15.6 days per year after first year.
  • Personal leave – up to 5 days per year.
  • Sick leave – up to 15.6 days accrued per year, including up to 5 days per year that can be taken to care for a family member.
  • Holiday leave – up to 12 days per calendar year.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel, Restaurant, Institutional Management or associated hospitality field or Associate Degree from a Culinary Institute.
  • 5 years food service production management experience.
  • 5 years food service supervision in progressive levels of responsibility.
  • Capable of monitoring own and other’s work, to confirm that established procedures are followed.
  • Comfortable with dynamic, fast-paced work environments; a sense of urgency and attention to deadlines and details.
  • Flexibility, willingness, and ability to pursue and adopt new ideas, information and technology, and process and summarize information.
  • Evidence of independent judgement, personal responsibility, and anticipatory thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • be decisive in time sensitive situations.
    • take personal responsibility for correcting customer service concerns.
    • solve problems.
    • communicate effectively with people from varied social, educational, and economic backgrounds and demonstrate sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues.
    • maintain a professional demeanor in fast-paced work environment.

    • change priorities with little/no notice.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Prior experience with a Food Service production system, inclusive of forecasting, pre-cost and post-production.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and experience with CBORD Food Service Suite, Net Menu or comparable menu management software proficiencies.
  • College/University Dining Experience
  • Extensive Catering Experience
  • Cooking Demo Experience
  • Knowledge of Culturally Diverse Ingredients and Menus
  • ServSafe Certified (required within sixty days of employment)
  • Previous experience working in a union environment.

  • Dining and Conference Services staff, as essential employees, need to arrive at work on a timely basis even when there is a publicly announced delayed opening or closing.
