Washburn University’s Department of Kinesiology invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Exercise Science to begin August 2022. This is a full-time 9-month, tenure track position. A completed doctorate is necessary for tenure-track appointment.

The selected candidate for this position will have a demonstrated commitment to pursuing teaching excellence at Washburn University, including a dedication to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds. Class sizes at Washburn are small, and students and faculty have the opportunity to participate in community-engaged learning.

Required Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in Kinesiology or related area; ABD applicants will be considered, with completion of the doctorate by May 2023.
  • Graduate training or experience Exercise Physiology, Fitness Testing, Exercise Prescription and Anatomical Kinesiology.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing inclusive teaching practices that engage students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • ACSM, NSCA, or related certification.
  • Experience supervising an Exercise Science lab.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching effectively at the collegiate level.
  • Graduate training or experience appropriate to teach Sports Nutrition.
  • Current Literature in Kinesiology.
  • Evidence of discipline-related scholarly/creative activity.
  • Evidence of discipline-related service to the profession.
Responsibilities:
  • Fulfill teaching expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment. Teach 12 credit hours per semester (either in person or online) or a full workload as outlined in the faculty handbook. Teach and develop courses consistent with candidate’s training and interests for majors and non-majors as assigned and dependent upon department needs.
  • Supervise Exercise Science Lab.
  • Advise students, maintain regular office hours, participate in departmental governance.
  • Arrange and supervise internship placements.
  • Fulfill service expectations associated with the tenure-track appointment by engaging in service activities in the department, university, and profession.
  • Fulfill expectations associated with a tenure-track appointment for scholarship.
  • Pursue an active research program that can involve students.
