Job Description

EdPlus at ASU is currently seeking an experienced and energetic ETL Analyst and developer in the EdPlus department. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly innovative person to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Duties will include, but are not limited to, database scripting and development, system design and architecture, development and support for our multi-faceted analytics environment. Additional responsibilities will entail development of database stored procedures, SQL scripts and web services to integrate university mission critical applications.

Essential Duties

  • Works collaboratively with users and team members to gather requirements; develops project specifications, scope and estimated effort; develops database design, table structure and writes store procedures to meet user objectives/outcomes.
  • Monitors and troubleshoot the existing ETL processes.
  • Enhances existing and create new ETL processes.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots existing BI applications, including frameworks, cubes and reports and ensures the availability of Tableau/SSRS reporting for the end users.
  • Enhances existing and creates new BI applications.
  • Collaborates with the Analytics Technical Manager to design and implement data extraction programs that integrate seamlessly into BI solutions to meet the needs of the end users.
  • Analyzes data to ensure information is accurate and reconcilable to its source of origin.
  • Performs quality assurance testing as appropriate prior to releasing data/information/reports into production / end users.
  • Explores and understands capabilities of BI tools (Tableau/SSRS) to expand BI knowledge.
  • Demonstrates knowledge acquired by incorporating best practices in projects. Shares knowledge acquired with BA team members and end users when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the Data Analytics team to support all aspects of the DW/BI infrastructure.
  • Develops, maintains, and delivers technical documentation related to ETL development, scheduled processes, frameworks, transformations, etc.
  • Performs the design, development, implementation, operation and maintenance of data systems largely focused on AWS Aurora and AWS Redshift.
  • Develops methodology for the ongoing assessment of database performance; identifies and resolves conflicts arising over the creation, control and use of data
  • Maintains a high degree of technical knowledge and expertise on database systems and a group of technology products.
  • In the review of existing systems and processes, applies the techniques and principles of process and procedure reengineering in the design and development of new systems and processes. Where possible develops and recommends alternative solutions to existing systems and processes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with customers, other technology specialists, and vendors about services.
  • Collaborates and teams with others on a variety of technology and technology support projects.
  • Conducts special projects/research as requested.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties or projects as assigned or directed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field and 2 years database modeling, creating and editing stored procedures including needs assessment of enterprise wide database needs OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field.
  • Experience with the following:
  • Designing and implementing effective database systems to fulfill business requirements.
  • ETL work, performance tuning and SQL tuning.
  • Working with database structures and platforms including MS SQL Server, Oracle, AWS Redshift and/or AWS Aurora
  • Developing and maintaining SQL code including stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes and constraints
  • Developing and deploying SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages
  • Developing and implementing web services
  • Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills

 

Working Environment

EdPlus at ASU is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. The center houses a diverse business community that links technology, research, education and entrepreneurship to position ASU and Greater Phoenix as global leaders in the knowledge economy.

 

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
