Buffalo State, State University of New York, seeks candidates for the position of Associate Director (Accounting Lead)

Reporting to the Director of Financial Management, the Associate Director (Accounting Lead) will provide financial accounting oversight for the College. This position is responsible for maintaining all accounting records across multiple funding sources. In addition, the position will provide analysis of spending, budgeting and provide foresight and recommendations to the director, administration and SUNY, when appropriate. The position will have oversight over accounting staff and accounts payable functions and staff. The position will collaborate on resource planning, financial reporting and Financial Management-related projects and initiatives. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills in a fast-paced, positive work environment; excellence in all forms of communication; and a willingness to improve business processes to optimize efficiency. Adherence and knowledge of general accounting rules and procedures including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), New York State, SUNY and campus standards is crucial. Attention to detail is essential.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in accounting, finance or a related field
  • Certified Public Accountant
  • Experience with financial systems and Excel
  • Knowledge of accounts payable functions

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with financial presentations to Boards
• Familiarity with New York State and SUNY systems and regulations
• Administrative experience in public higher education
• Non profit accounting experience
• Managerial experience
