Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a nine-month, tenure track Assistant Professor of Middle Grades Education faculty position specializing in English/Language Arts in the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education (SMGE). This position begins August 1, 2022. 

 

Responsibilities Include

  • Teaching Expectations: teach primarily undergraduate courses, including possible clinical supervision, in the Middle Grades Education program; teach primarily face-to-face courses with possibility of teaching online (synchronous and/or asynchronous); carry a typical teaching load of 3/3;  prepare for and effectively teach courses; use the university’s learning management system for teaching; teach courses as scheduled; communicate promptly with staff regarding class scheduling, book orders, meetings, etc.; participate in program meetings and engage in curricular activities; submit course syllabi; hold office hours; work with department Chair/Program Coordinators to make timely curricular improvements/course changes; collect data as necessary via the electronic data management system.
  • Service Expectations: attend and engage in department, program, and college meetings; participate in program activities; contribute to the evaluation of program data for continuous improvement; serve on department, college, and university committees; advise and mentor students; engage in recruiting/retention activities for the department; participate in and lead course/program development and revisions; participate in professional organizations.
  • Scholarship/Research Expectations: pursue and establish a scholarly research agenda; publish work in peer-reviewed journals and other professional venues; present work and regional and national professional conferences; seek external funding through grant applications with assistance from college and university support services.

 

Required Qualifications Include

  • An earned doctorate, or its foreign equivalent, in Middle Grades Education with a concentration in English/Language Arts Education or a closely related field. ABD candidates will be considered; however, doctorate must be earned prior to start date.
  • Current or expired teaching license that covers middle level grade bands.
  • Minimum of 3 years middle level (Grades 4-8) teaching experience.
  • History of or a potential for scholarship/creative activities in the field of Middle Grades Education and/or English/Language Arts Education.
  • Evidence of working with culturally and ethnically diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues in Middle Grades Education and/or English/Language Arts Education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to facilitate successful student learning experiences and achievement through effective teaching practices, methods, and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial manner with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students.

 

Preferred Qualifications Include

  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-racist teaching
  • Experience supporting/promoting diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice
  • Experience working with students from marginalized and/or traditionally underrepresented groups
  • History of or potential for obtaining external funding
  • College teaching experience
  • Experience implementing instructional technology into course instruction
  • Experience facilitating fully online or hybrid teaching.
  • A minimum of 18 credit of graduate level reading courses or commensurate experience
  • Familiarity with Association of Middle Level Education standards and philosophy
  • Knowledge of National Council of Teachers of English standards
  • Experience with or willingness to establish and maintain partnerships with local schools
