Job Summary:

The Physical Therapy Program was founded in 1926 and, in 1929, became one of the first three physical therapy curricula in the United States to receive accreditation from the American Physical Therapy Association. Including summers, the program is a three-year, free-standing program within the Office of Academic Affairs within the School of Medicine and Public Health. It offers a professional doctor of physical therapy (DPT) degree. The Program Director reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and is a member of the educational leadership team for health professions programs. Faculty members within the Physical Therapy Program have faculty appointments in departments at the School of Medicine and Public Health that are best aligned with their scholarly and/or clinical activity.

The Physical Therapy Program Director is directly responsible for providing visionary program leadership, overall management to ensure effective operations and create an optimal learning environment, oversight of all aspects of the program, and administration of the educational programs. The incumbent will have significant working knowledge and experience in assessment and planning, management and excellent stewardship of human and fiscal resources, and an understanding of curriculum content, design, and evaluation. The director must demonstrate professional behaviors and be a champion for equity and inclusion.

The director is responsible for ensuring that the program meets all CAPTE accreditation requirements as well as compliance with all school and university requirements. The Director will serve on school and university-wide committees that help advance the mission, vision, and values of the school and university. Effective oral and written communication skills with multiple stakeholders such as those within the program, department, school, institution, community, alumni, and other external stakeholders are required.

Responsibilities:

1. Administration: plan, direct, and administer the educational program; oversee, develop and monitor the new program's budget; represent the program within the University structure and to appropriate state and national professional associations; responsible for faculty development plan; serve on program, department and university committees; supervise program support staff; be involved in fund-raising activities with the UW Foundation; arrange annual Visiting Lectureship presentation; coordinate preparation of accreditation documents and represent the program to the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education; prepare faculty meeting agendas and conduct meetings; oversee and if appropriate, appoint faculty to program committees for Clinical Education, Admissions, Curriculum, Student Affairs, and Scholarship.

2. Teaching: responsible for timetable student schedules; teach in the area of expertise. The successful candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

3. Service: develop and coordinate outreach efforts for the Physical Therapy Program at program, school, institutional, community, and international levels. Oversee student organizations such as DPTSO, MEDiC, ADEPT.

4. Conduct performance evaluations of faculty and staff; hire and oversee associated and guest faculty.

5. Distribute an Annual Review and Strategic Plan for the Program to the Department Chair and School Senior Associate Dean.

6. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

Education:

Required
Ph.D. or other terminal degrees, or a degree at least one level above the level of instruction, or otherwise approved as qualified by the Dean
An academic doctoral degree, must have DPT, Ph.D., or DPT/Ph.D.

Qualifications:

- An earned Academic Doctoral degree, must have DPT, Ph.D., or DPT/Ph.D.
- Physical Therapist who holds an active, unrestricted PT license in any United States jurisdiction, including Wisconsin, or has plans to become licensed in Wisconsin.
- Holds the rank of associate professor, professor, clinical associate professor, or clinical professor, or has plans to become promoted to associate professor by November 2023.
- Has a minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE accredited entry-level physical therapy education program.
- Has had administrative leadership experience within a physical therapy program, college, or university

License/Certification:

Required
PT - Physical Therapist State Licensure
Physical Therapist who holds an active, unrestricted PT license in any United States jurisdiction, including Wisconsin, or has plans to become licensed in Wisconsin.
