Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado is looking for a Flight Software (FSW) Engineer for the Libera instrument program. Libera will continue the 40-year space measurement of the Earth’s outgoing radiation. This individual will be a member of the FSW team and support software development and test for the Libera instrument.

A Flight Software (FSW) Engineer III is skilled in the design, development, documentation, debug and tests, and maintenance of embedded microprocessor software. This position must have an understanding of the software development lifecycle. This position collaborates with Systems, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers to plan, design, and understand how the flight software is used. The FSW Engineer III assists in defining and establishing software development environments and tools and capturing requirements.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Software Design:
  • Assist FSW lead with software requirements and design architecture that meet project goals.
  • Work with FSW lead and team on system architectural design and define software modules and their contents.
  • Participate in requirements and design reviews.
Software Development:
  • Implement software in accordance with established standards.
  • Respond to issues and anomalies.
  • Software Testing, Verification, and Validation.
  • Assist in the development of test program for FSW system.
  • Conduct Computer Software Component (CSC) code reviews.
  • Participate in integration and system testing of software components and builds.
  • Perform verification activities and document results according to standards.
  • Work with and coordinate activities with Software Quality Assurance (SQA).
Software Maintenance:
  • Assist in the development of the software maintenance plan and support maintenance activities.
  • Participate in change control boards and reviews.
  • Teaching and Mentoring.
  • Assist software student employees with their tasks.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $125,500. We offer a generous retirement plan that includes 200% matching for the first 5% contributed with immediate vesting. Relocation assistance is available per institute guidelines.

What We Require
  • BS in Computer Science or related field.
  • Experience in C/C++ development.
  • 5 years of work experience in the software field including experience with interrupt service routines, microprocessor architectures, real-time operating systems, hardware interfaces, and low-level communication protocols.
What You Will Need
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be self-directed.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Familiarity with hardware/software interactions and digital logic and FPGAs.
  • Experience with object oriented design concepts.
