POSITION SUMMARY:

The Regional Clinical Coordinator is a member of the full-time faculty (rank commensurate with experience) who also holds an administrative appointment related to managing all aspects of clinical and preceptorship experiences as determined by the College of Nursing and Public Health.

Responsibilities include: Designing and coordinating student rotations with clinical and preceptorship experiences and assisting clinical coordination for programs with the design, implementation, and evaluation of the clinical experiences. This includes providing a perspective for affiliation agreements with health care organizations and systems that meet state regulatory, agency, and university requirements. The Regional Clinical Coordinator contributes to the well-being of all relevant nursing programs and assists with student enrollment growth and faculty involvement.

The Regional Clinical Coordinator also participates in activities that promote the stature of the College of Nursing and Public Health and abides by the mandates set by the South University Board of Trustees, University Chancellor, System Vice President for Academic Affairs, and College Deans.

KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Perform administrative and instructional duties as outlined in the position description and in accordance with the provisions of Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook.
  • Approve student rotations as established by the nursing faculty within clinical and preceptorship settings that span the U.S. and meet on-going needs of the program.
  • Oversight and continuous review of established student rotations within clinical and preceptorship experiences.
  • Conduct periodic on-site evaluations of students, clinical sites, and preceptors to ensure instructional quality is maintained and clinical objectives are met.
  • Ensure that clinical and preceptor experiences meet the requirements of applicable local, state, and national professional and accrediting bodies.
  • Prepare accreditation reports pertaining to clinical experiences of students as directed by the Senior Clinical Director and the Dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health.
  • Conducts the periodic evaluation as outlined in the PEMP.
  • Plan and implement methodologies to evaluate program, course curriculum, and student performance as they relate to clinical and preceptorship experiences as established by the College of Nursing and Public Health.
  • Oversight and approval of student and institutional files, including information on liability insurance, clinical affiliation agreements, preceptorship agreements, health records, and background/drug screens.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining an effective electronic student documentation system that meets the needs of the nursing curriculum and professional discipline.
  • Conduct periodic audits of students and faculty records including clinical documentation to ensure that the students are meeting program outcomes.
  • Maintain the highest moral and ethical standards as an educator, nursing professional, and member of the South University community.
  • Maintain teaching assignment as determined by the Dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health, where appropriate.
  • Perform other responsibilities as determined by the Senior Clinical Director and Dean of the College of Nursing and Public Health.
  • Assists Assistant Program Directors, Program Directors and field experience faculty in resolving student problems and collaborating on remediation plans for the practicum experience
  • Serve as liaison between South University and clinical sites, developing strategic partnerships, promoting positive relationships, and ongoing clinical relationships.
  • Act as point of contact concerning practicum issues / practicum experience
  • Maintains practicum manual and related forms related to practicum

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution in an area related to the discipline preferred. Masters in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution required.
  • Possess and maintain current professional license and national certification as an APRN.
  • Experience contracting clinical sites, planning preceptorship experiences, and/or conducting site visits for APRN program
  • Documented record of professional, academic, and administrative/management achievement.
  • Academic nursing or health-related teaching in a university setting (online teaching experience a plus).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and implement accreditation criteria and state agency regulations.
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from students, faculty, preceptors, regulatory agencies, and/or members of the academic or business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, faculty, academic leaders, corporate leaders, and public groups.
  • Experience with computerized learning management and education administrative systems.
  • Proficient with the use of standard business productivity, computer data base management, and Internet applications on personal computers.
  • Possess a strong commitment to the mission and goals of South University
  • Other requirements specific to the discipline.
ENVIRONMENT:

The individual must be able to travel out of the local area with an occasional overnight stay to observe and evaluate students, clinical sites, and clinical coordinators and also participate in a variety of conferences and meetings.
