ABOUT JOHN JAY COLLEGE

ABOUT THE PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT
The Psychology Department at John Jay College currently has 40 full-time faculty members committed to strong teaching and mentoring of our diverse student body and dedicated to psychological science, especially as it relates to social and criminal justice. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Forensic Psychology (broad training in traditional contemporary psychology along with a thematic focus on forensic specializations and issues). There are over 2000 majors, along with approximately 400 students in our Master’s programs in Forensic Psychology and Forensic Mental Health Counseling. The CUNY Graduate Center doctoral programs in Psychology & Law and Clinical Psychology are housed at John Jay as well. The Psychology & Law program trains research focused scholars. The APA Accredited Clinical Doctoral Program endorses a scientist-practitioner model, maintaining a balance between research training and strong clinical preparation. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Department of Psychology at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for a full-time lecturer position to begin in Fall 2022. The successful candidate will teach courses in the undergraduate program, such as Research Methods and Introduction to Psychology, and courses in the candidate’s area of specialization.

This is a teaching position with a course load of eight 3-credit classes per year in addition to major expectations of departmental service. There is no expectation of research or publication. The position of lecturer is tenure-bearing through what is called a “certificate of continuous employment” (CCE) after the sixth annual reappointment.

The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. CUNY anticipates a return to fully onsite work before January 2022 and this position is based in New York, NY.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must have a PhD, PsyD, or ABD at the time of appointment. Two years of college-level teaching experience, and evidence of strong effective teaching, are required. Candidates are expected to have expertise in teaching psychology including research methods. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.
