Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Transitions is a 12-month position which serves as member of the Office for Inclusive Excellence. Reporting to the Director of the Office for Inclusive Excellence, the incumbent develops and implements transition programs for students designed to assist them acclimate to the University. Such programs will be directed at certain groups who are traditionally not retained by the institution, including but not limited to: first-generation, transfer and underrepresented populations. The Assistant Director will coordinate the JumpStart Peer Mentor program; including recruiting, hiring and training of peer mentors, supervise Graduate Assistant(s), plan and implement programming, prepare reports, and conduct continued program maintenance. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with academic and student affairs staff in the support and development of academic and personal growth experiences for students.

Principle Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the JumpStart Peer Mentor Program; including recruiting, hiring and training of Peer Mentors, supervise Graduate Assistant(s), plan and implement programming, prepare reports, and conduct continued program maintenance.
  • Work closely with the staff of the Office of Enrollment Management and the Office of Admissions to identify pipeline schools for underrepresented populations and conduct outreach for transition programs for new and transfer students.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Admissions and other campus stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive Transfer Transition Program.
  • Work with the Office of Grants, Research and Sponsored Programs to identify and pursue funding opportunities for transition programs designed to promote student success.
  • Provide presentation and training sessions for faculty, staff and students.
  • Engage in continued professional growth opportunities, and remain current on trending topics in student affairs via involvement in professional organizations, and attendance in regional, state, and national conferences.
  • Serve on division, university, and community committees and organizations.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree
Three years graduate and/or professional experience working in a higher education environment.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
Successful performance in an interview/presentation and passing a criminal background check. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Student Affairs or related field.
Three or more years professional experience working with multicultural student populations.
Demonstrated knowledge of transition programs, bridge programs or other student-centered approaches to increasing retention and completion.
