Position Summary
The Chief of Staff serves as a member of the President's Cabinet and supports the President in leading an effective management team. The Chief of Staff manages the President's Cabinet and carries out the President's priorities. The Chief of Staff collaborates with university vice presidents and senior managers in a variety of activities that cut across the university's organizational divisions. The Chief of Staff is responsible for leading, directing, delegating, or assisting with projects as assigned by the President, including general management responsibilities of the President's Office and the tracking to completion of all initiatives initiated by the President or the President's Office. The Chief of Staff facilitates communication and interaction between the President, the President's Office, and various internal and external constituencies, including members of the California State University Board of Trustees and, local city government, state legislators, congressional representatives, and donors. The Chief of Staff is responsible for numerous administrative activities and projects for the President and serves as a central information source for internal and external inquiries. Keeping the President informed of all significant action(s) taken is an important factor in the Chief of Staff's responsibility. This position requires an individual to handle highly confidential matters, and possess strong analytical and organizational skill sets. The Chief of Staff oversees crisis response and management and leads the Critical Response Team.
FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $9,167 - $27,500 per month

Hiring Range: Commensurate with experience.

Time Base: Full-Time

Pay Plan: 12 month

Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 am-5 pm; evenings and weekends as needed.

Department Information
The Division of the President at California State University, Sacramento includes the Office of the President, University Communications, University Initiatives, and Student Success, the Office of Institutional Research, Office of Public Affairs and Advocacy, and Hornet Athletics. The Office of the President includes the presidential aide, the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff, the Director of Presidential Business Operations, the Director of Policy and Records, and University Events. Required Qualifications
Education - Master's degree from an accredited university. Experience -Five (5) years of high-level administrative experience in a major public or nonprofit agency, college or university, or a comparable setting. -Experience with budget development and financial management. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. -Excellent organizational and time management skills. -Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills. -Superior political acumen and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively and diplomatically with multiple constituencies. -Knowledge of and ability to manage budgetary matters, and to analyze and interpret complex materials. -Knowledge of and ability to analyze and manage personnel programs using reasoning, interpretation, and recommend alternatives and courses of action. -Ability to handle sensitive and/or complex situations with confidentiality and discretion. -Strategic leadership skills; ability to set and guide the strategic vision and direction for the university in order to achieve institutional goals. -Ability to coach, develop, and provide lead work direction or supervision in the workplace. -Demonstrated ability to lead crisis management teams or situations. -Proficiency in standard office programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook. Other Requirements -Must have flexibility with schedule to be able to work nights and/or weekends and travel as required.

-Earned Doctorate or equivalent from an accredited university -Knowledge of academic and administrative programs and organizational structures -Knowledge of higher education current issues, trends, and best practices
