General Description
College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking a full-time classified position as part of the categorically funded Student Success Program.

Under the direction of the Director, Student Success, the Student Success Coordinator will be assigned to the District's disproportionately impacted groups and will employ best practices in an effort to increase student success. These practices include but are not limited to the following: regular and frequent contact with all students under their assignment; logging/tracking individual student progress/records; flexible work hours including evening and weekend and planning and tracking relevant budgets and expenditures.

The Student Success Coordinators will meet with students to create an academic engagement plan, set goals, and share resources to help students achieve their objectives within and beyond the classroom environment. The Student Success Coordinators will provide leadership in the Student Success Program through outreach to students and campus partners.

The Student Success Coordinator position requires strong critical thinking and communications skills, as well as the ability to work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships with colleagues, students, student services, and academic services units. The individuals must be able to exercise excellent professional judgment and discretion, making decisions on a regular basis that impact student welfare and the District.

This is a full-time 12-month position.M - F; 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Initial salary placement is at $64,560

Job Duties
Job duties of the Student Success Coordinator include, in addition to, and related to, services provided COS Counselors:

  • Identify and track students by disproportionately impacted groups.
  • Coordinate an academic success program for students while promoting an environment of academic excellence and promoting student success and retention.
  • Coordinate between instructors, student services staff, counselors, and administrators to enhance the academic success of students.
  • Facilitate appropriate responses to student Early Alerts.
  • Administer a regular schedule of recurring student meetings to address student needs.
  • Record attendance and individualized comments for each student after each session. Document progress, goals, to-do list, and any other information-requiring follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of every student interaction including in-person visits, phone, and online consultations.
  • Through professional development, provide active leadership on current issues and trends related to college students' academic success and retention.
  • Facilitate academic success presentations and workshops to various campus partners.
  • Oversee and develop reports to assist in the assessment of the Student Success Program.
  • Other duties as assigned including night/weekend assignments, group meetings, and off-campus outreach.


Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and
  • Two years of professional experience in education or the equivalent and
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Skill assessing academic difficulties, developing appropriate remedies and evaluating and assessing effectiveness of student support intervention.
  • Experience working with under-represented populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to efficiently and effectively manage multiple work priorities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.

Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • An incumbent must be insurable at the “standard rate” by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

Working Conditions
Environment:
  • Indoor work environment.
  • Travel from site to site.
  • Multi-project, fast-paced office environment; able to meet concurrent deadlines.

  • Academic and co-curricular factors leading to student success at the postsecondary level.
  • Strong data and records management skills
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
Ability to:
  • Provide leadership, and support to staff involved in student success programs and services
  • Communicate clearly in both oral and written form
  • Work with under-represented populations and the ability to work successfully with students of diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, cultural and disability backgrounds
  • Work independently while developing strong collaborative relationships colleagues, students, student services and academic service units.
  • Manage multiple work priorities
  • Stay current with trends and technological advancements in assigned areas of responsibility
  • Work cooperatively in an environment of shared governance by maintaining effective working relationships with students, staff and community organizations.
  • Interpret, apply and explain district policies and legal regulations and requirements
  • Select, assign, orient, train, supervise, counsel, discipline and evaluate performance of direct subordinates
  • Learn and abide all COS District academic integrity policies, academic policies and best practices.
