The Office of Student Engagement & Residential Living, within the Learning Division of the College and under the direction of Campus Life, has a new opportunity for a full time Student Engagement and Residential Living Specialist for Student Housing and Accommodations. This is a 11-month, live-on campus position. On-campus housing accommodations will be provided year-round and an on-campus meal plan will be provided during the scheduled Spring and Fall semesters. Evening and nighttime hours are expected and include facilitating resident assistant staff meetings, responding to student issues, and attending student programs.  Staff are expected to work 35-40 hours a week and will work with the Director of Student Engagement and Residential Living to create and set a balanced work schedule.

The Community Coordinator supports the department of Student Engagement & Residential Living by: providing Resident Advisor supervision; ensuring a positive and safe experience for our student body, and serving as an effective Conduct Hearing Officer.  This is a live-on campus position.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university, Masters preferred
  • Previous student life experience desired but not essential

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Basic familiarity with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Platform
  • Valid Driver’s License and a willingness to travel
  • Experience taking initiative, anticipating concerns before they become problematic
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills to assess a situation and determine the best solution
  • Ability to function independently while coordinating many projects at once
  • Possess strong written communication, oral and effective active-listening skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Possess a good sense of humor and perspective
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Ability to work within the culture of the College
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present oneself in a professional manner to students, parents, and the College community, this includes having a mature demeanor, presenting the SJC brand positively and demonstrating the College’s Core Values
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially volatile situations involving students and their behavior
