The University of Florida College of Medicine invites applications and nominations for the UF Health Central Florida Internal Medicine Residency Program Director to serve as a key member of the Graduate Medical Education team and clinical faculty.

UF Graduate Medical Education (GME) at the University of Florida College of Medicine (COM) is a large GME system with 135 total programs, including 85 programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and over 1,000 residents and fellows. Following the 2019 partnership with The Villages® and UF Health Central Florida, The University of Florida will bring this same passion for Graduate Medical Education to the 307-bed Villages Hospital located in The Villages® Florida.

 

The Opportunity

 

Under the direction of Jamie Conti, M.D., chair of the department of medicine at the UF College of Medicine, the founding residency program director will build the program from the ground up. This physician will oversee and ensure the quality of the didactic and clinical education, resident selection and evaluation, and patient care management. The program will include 40 to 50 residents, who will train and rotate in a number of clinical areas at UF The Villages® Hospital. The program director will immediately begin to work with medical staff to develop the plan for resident rotations and training. The program director will work closely with the College

of Medicine’s Graduate Medical Education office through the accreditation process with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medicine Education.

 

This is a full-time position that includes a 0.50 FTE administrative appointment. The academic appointment will be in the Internal Medicine Department.

 

This role will focus on the following responsibilities and deliverables:

 

  • Achieve ACGME Accreditation, welcoming first residents in the summer of 2024.
  • Develop an educational curriculum as defined in the ACGME Program Requirements for the specialty and periodic review/revision of the educational curriculum.
  • Provide instruction and experience with quality-assurance/performance improvement.
  • Develop and perform evaluations using dependable measures to assess each resident’s competence in the general competencies of patient care, medical knowledge, practice- based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice.
  • Implement a process that links educational outcomes with program improvement.
  • Facilitate residents’ participation in education and scholarly activities by championing faculty scholarship and engagement in continued development activities as prioritized by ACGME recommendations and guidelines.
  • Procure confidential written evaluations of the faculty and of the educational experiences by the residents.
  • Ensure residents’ attendance at educational offerings required by the institution and
  • other regulatory/accrediting agencies.
  • Review the educational effectiveness of the program.
  • Provide oversight and liaison with appropriate personnel of all participating sites of the residency training.
  • Ensure that each resident maintains necessary licensure.
  • Create, implement, and annually review program-specific policies including supervision, wellness, transitions of care, and duty hour compliance.
  • Recruit and interview all residents, core faculty, associate program directors, and faculty medical educators in accordance with ACGME aggregate of total residents.
  • Cultivate a diverse and inclusive workforce through the strategic and conscious initiatives to recruit and retain faculty and staff under-represented in medicine, while creating an equitable and inclusive learning environment for all.
  • Helps to manage clinical scheduling of residents including, but not limited to:
  • Creating and scheduling clinical rotations.
  • Structuring on-call schedules to provide readily available supervision to residents on duty and appropriate backup support.
  • Structuring duty hours and on-call time periods so as to focus on the needs of the patient, continuity of care, and the educational needs of the resident, and to comply with requirements as set by the institution, ACGME, and the appropriate RRC.

 

This position will be located at UF Health Central Florida’s The Villages® Hospital, Florida, and

will travel to our Gainesville location occasionally upon request.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates for this position should have a MD or DO degree and experience directing an ACGME-accredited program, preferably as a residency or fellowship program director.

Academic appointment and rank will be in the appropriate Department and commensurate with experience and accomplishment.
