Position:

The Department of Computer Science of the College of Engineering (CoEgr) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) has an opening at the Assistant/Associate/Professor rank starting in the Fall 2022. As part of a premier research university situated in Virginia’s capital city, VCU’s computer science department has bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs and collaborates closely with many VCU schools and departments including VCU’s MCV campus. VCU is a Carnegie-classified very high research activity university, and is one of the top 100 universities in the U.S. in federal R&D expenditures. The CoEgr is in an extensive growth stage, significantly increasing the number of its faculty as student enrollment rises. Embarked on rapid growth, the computer science department currently has 25 tenure-track, tenured and term faculty members.

Applications are being sought for a tenure-track or tenured full-time faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the Computer Science Department at Virginia Commonwealth University. Candidates should be qualified for an appointment based on excellence in publication, funding potential; and graduate and undergraduate teaching. Well-qualified candidates in all areas of computer science will be considered. Of special interest are applicants who specialize in software engineering, particularly those with demonstrated evidence of collaborations with non-computer scientists, including computer engineers.

Teaching: The faculty member will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level throughout the CS curriculum. The candidate is expected to make important contributions and innovations in teaching.

Research : For Assistant Professor level, faculty member must establish a nationally recognized research program with a record of publication in refereed journals and external funding. For Associate/Professor level, faculty will be required to have a well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department. The faculty member will supervise graduate and post-graduate level students.

Service: The faculty member will be expected to provide high quality service to the department, college, university and professional community. In addition, the faculty member will serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a doctorate in Computer Science or related area, with relevant professional experience after receiving the Ph.D. Senior-level candidates must have a well-developed research portfolio with evidence of substantial external funding.The College of Engineering at VCU supports a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates in all areas of computer science will be considered, however, of special interest are faculty in software engineering.
