Technical Specialist- Applied Learning and Internships



1. Qualifications

A. Educational Background: Associates degree required.

B. Experience: Minimum of two-year professional work in a college setting, preferably in a community college. Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders to develop, oversee and monitor applied learning opportunities for FLCC students. Experience and demonstrated capacity for working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

C. Special Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and human relations skills required. Ability to work respectfully with confidential information and make referrals as appropriate. Microsoft office and database management skills required. Experience within offices of career, internships, applied learning and/or volunteer settings preferred. Knowledge of, respect for, and successful engagement with members of other cultures or backgrounds

2. General Functions

The Technical Specialist- Applied Learning and Internships reports directly to the AVP of Academic Technology and High Impact Practices. Collaborates with the Career Service Office and the Assistant Director of Student Life on applied learning and internship promotion, monitoring and assessment. The Technical Specialist provides critical administrative, programmatic and analytic support for applied learning and internship initiatives across campus.

3. Specific Responsibilities:

A. Develop in consultation with the AVP a work plan for the SUNY Next Generation Job Linkage Program.

B. Compile and maintain database of experiential curricular resources, and distribute to faculty across disciplines.

C. Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels across campus to work on applied learning/internships-related initiatives and projects.

D. Assist with applied learning marketing updates, including website updates, writing for publications, social media, etc.

E. In collaboration with ACPI Office, collect and analyze data from multiple sources, prepare data and reports as required.

F. Ensure accuracy of database of applied learning/internship courses.

G. Create and maintain database of external partners for course-based applied learning projects (if and when possible, utilize Purple Briefcase software).

H. Develop and execute planning events (e.g., workshops, trainings, committee meetings) for students, faculty and community partners on applied learning/internships guidelines, outcomes and legal mandates.

I. Develop program marketing, including ability to use social media, for applied learning/internship opportunities to stakeholders.

J. Represent Finger Lakes Community College at the SUNY level by participating in local, regional and State conferences related to Applied Learning & Internships.

K. Stay abreast of trends and best-practices, make recommendations, on the topics of applied learning & internships.

L. Create accessible and welcoming learning environments that are supportive and inclusive of all students, taking into account the diverse and intersecting identities and backgrounds that many of those students may hold or claim. Including but not limited to nontraditional and first-generation students, students with disabilities, students of color, students from underrepresented groups, international students, LGBTQ+ students, religion, socioeconomic status, and gender

M. Perform other duties as assigned.
