AST PROF
Job Description:
The successful candidate(s) will join a highly motivated faculty at a Top 5 public university (according to the 2021 U.S. News and World Reports rankings). Opportunities include partnering with UF’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Initiative ( https://ai.ufl.edu ) which is aimed at advancing UF as a national and worldwide leader in AI. This initiative is supported by a $70 million initial investment and one of the most powerful AI supercomputers (HiPerGator 3.0) in an institution of higher education in the world. As part of this initiative, UF is committed to hiring 100 new faculty members through a collaborative, inter-collegiate framework. Opportunities for collaboration also exist with the DCP Fabrication Lab—that houses a wide variety of digital fabrication equipment, including CNC, waterjet, laser cutters, and a variety of 3D printing technology (FDM, UV resin, carbon fiber, and metal)—and the Rinker School of Construction Management’s new focus on robotic automated construction.
Gainesville is home to a vibrant, welcoming community with diverse cultural, natural, and educational resources. The UFSoA is known for its rigorous interdisciplinary design studio curriculum with numerous academic concentrations and substantial international opportunities for both research and teaching. The UFSoA has more than six hundred students with thirty-three full-time faculty and offers the following degree programs: Bachelor of Design in Architecture, Master of Architecture, Master of Science in Architectural Studies, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture. The School is one of five units in the College of Design, Construction and Planning’s active, interdisciplinary environment that seeks to contribute to solving environmental challenges in Florida, across the US, and the world. UFSoA faculty engage in research and teaching alliances with colleagues in each of the college’s other units, reflecting the college’s dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition to Gainesville, UFSoA maintains campuses in Orlando, Jacksonville, and Vicenza (Italy), which offer faculty additional opportunities for research and teaching. UFSoA is committed to supporting faculty through mentorship, research and travel funding, assistance with grant writing and publication, and funding for graduate assistants to support teaching and research.
The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The University of Florida has a student body of over 52,000 undergraduate, graduate, and first professional degree students, including over 14,500 minority students, and 6,000 international students. This is a tenure-accruing position.
