Job Description:

The Department of Psychology welcomes applications for a full-time professor of practice position (associate-level or professor-level) as Director of the department's Psychological Counseling Services and Training Center, to begin Fall 2022. The typical contract is 4 years with an opportunity for renewal. The in-house training center clinic is an integral component of the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology designed to ensure that graduate students have access to high-quality supervised training at practicum and internship level. The center currently provides between 1,500-2,000 hours of direct contact hours to clients from the university community over an academic year.

The candidate will be responsible for leading the professional operation of the training center for 9 months of the year (September to May). The candidate will ensure that the center protocols, procedures, and daily operations adhere to the highest ethical standards of clinical practice. The candidate will be overseeing the daily operation; developing and implementing strategic plans; conducting regular assessments; reviewing risk management protocols; overseeing facilities and related equipment; training related staff and orienting faculty and students; as well as supervising the student trainees. The candidate will work closely with department faculty providing evaluation and feedback on trainee performance in adherence with expected competency standards. The candidate will also establish partnerships with university and external entities and enhance the center's capacity to offer outreach and consultation.

The candidate will be an active member of the department of psychology faculty and participate in departmental, school, and university service. The candidate will teach two graduate and/or undergraduate courses in the Fall and Spring semesters related to applied professional practice such as clinical psychology, psychotherapy models, practicum, and internship. Preference will be given to those who are able to teach career counseling, couples counseling, and/or group work.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology and be qualified to practice and supervise based on education, training and experience. We are seeking candidates with experience in diverse or integrative psychotherapy modalities and a commitment to cultural competence. As a professor of practice, the candidate should have an ongoing psychotherapy or counseling practice and a positive reputation in the professional community. The candidate should have previous administrative experience, preferably related to graduate-level psychology practitioner training centers, as well as previous experience supervising trainees. The candidate should demonstrate skills in high quality teaching and supervision and be familiar with the philosophy and operations of clinical training centers at graduate programs in the U.S. Familiarity with the local culture and Arabic language are preferred.
