Position:  Assistant Professor of Social Work 

Salary and Terms:  Full-time, nine month* tenure track position.  Salary placement is commensurate with education and experience

Position Description: SMSU's Assistant Professor of Social work is a full-time, tenure track faculty position. The faculty member’s primary teaching responsibilities will include components of the generalist social work curriculum at SMSU. Courses are expected to be delivered face-to-face and both synchronous and asynchronous online delivery methods. Student advising related to professional and academic issues as well as field instruction is also expected. This position will receive three credits release time to serve as the field director, which includes assisting students in the application and securing of field placements, conflict resolution, agency orientations, and building and maintaining relations with social service agencies through the region. The position will engage in scholarly and creative activity, continuing preparation and student, contribute to student growth and development, and serve the SMSU Community. SMSU, in its commitment to meeting the service needs of the region, expects faculty to engage in regional service, education or study as part of their community service responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates for SMSU's Assistant Professor of Social Work position will meet the following expectations:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited university.
  • Two years of post-MSW practice experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment or proven strategies for fostering a diverse and inclusive environment; demonstrated ability or proven strategies to teach and work with persons from diverse backgrounds is required.
  • Documented teaching experience at the college level.
  • Experience with online course delivery and online delivery technologies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Student-centered approach to education and a commitment to helping grow the social work program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a human service-related field or a Doctorate of Social Work.
  • Post MSW practice experience in a rural setting.
  • Previous experience supervising social work field placements.
