The Director of the Longitudinal Primary Care Clerkship will oversee the four-year Longitudinal Primary Care Course. The course will provide medical students with a longitudinal primary care experience at an ambulatory clinical site for the four years of their medical education. At this time, all faculty appointments in the College of Medicine are non-tenure track. The College of Medicine anticipates being able to make tenure track positions available for application in the future.

Specific duties include the following:
Curriculum Development (80%)
  • Revise and maintain syllabus for Longitudinal Primary Care Course
  • Identify resources to improve medical student history taking and physical examination skills.
  • Incorporate resources to enhance student understanding of the social determinants of health, racial and ethnic diversity, gender identification and other societal issues that impact the health of the population.
  • Update and maintain the tracking system to capture student experiences and clinical encounters with patients who have common ambulatory diagnoses.
  • Update and maintain the evaluation tool for student performance that includes an assessment of clinical skills and narrative feedback of overall performance.
  • Refine feedback tool to assess performance of clinical preceptors.
  • Outreach to Clinical Preceptors
  • Identify clinical preceptors for the Longitudinal Primary Care Course.
  • Revise and maintain medical student evaluation rubric and guidelines for clinical preceptors.
  • Provide faculty development tools for clinical preceptors.
Clinical – 20% Effort
  • Evaluate and treat patients at the University of Houston Campus Health Center or an affiliate clinic.
  • Maintain an electronic medical record of encounters, diagnostic studies and referrals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team based care.
Salary and rank commensurate with academic achievements and experience.

Qualifications :
  • Medical Licensure in the State of Texas
  • Medical degree from an accredited allopathic or osteopathic college of medicine
  • Board certification or board eligibility in one of the following specialties: Family Medicine, Pediatrics or Internal Medicine,
  • Experience documenting with an electronic medical record and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five Years of experience providing clinical care
  • Experience teaching medical students and residents
  • Experience contributing to quality improvement projects
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic or Chinese
