Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the position of Student Account Representative - Cashier. This position reports directly to the Senior Director of Student Business Services and is located in River Forest, IL.

This position receives and handles payments to the University - cash, check, money order, credit card and direct deposits. The position also handles and records other transactions related to Accounts Receivable. The Student Accounts Representative - Cashier is expected to provide the highest level of customer service to all University constituents; this would include, but is not limited to, investigating and resolving queries as it pertains to their respective accounts. The position is also accountable for executing and consistently improving the processes and procedures earlier established for the department.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Customer Accounts
    • Apply payments to accounts
    • Ensure that assets are deposited in the appropriate bank accounts
    • Process miscellaneous transactions
    • Maintain restricted and unrestricted clearing accounts
    • Post application fees provided by partners
    • Process student refunds
    • Record and process NSF payments, including entry to account, notification to customers with follow up within 10 days on unresolved issues
    • Maintain accounts with class trip and/or study abroad balances
    • Submit charge-back disputes
    • Provide assistance to the University's Finance department, related to Accounts Receivable and Bank Account Reconciliations as needed
  • Reconciliation
    • Reconcile in the morning from previous day operations
    • Balance in the afternoon all current day's operations
    • Process bank deposits
    • Prepare and make monthly bank deposits
    • Post Financial Aid related checks such as MAP grants and outside resources checks to respective accounts
    • Supply report to management all monies processed
  • Customer Service
    • Answer incoming phone calls and assist walk in students and parents
    • Reply to voicemail messages and student accounts or individual emails in a timely manner
    • Review accounts for processing of add/drop forms
  • Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).

  • All communication with stakeholders is effective, professional, accurate, and timely
  • Improves work performance and that of others by being receptive to and appropriately sharing information
  • Strong administrative skills/experience in a business office environment
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; bilingual - Spanish, a definite plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn and utilize new computer systems
  • Experience in Banner is highly desirable
  • Ability to work under strict deadlines; able to effectively multi-task
  • Professional demeanor
  • Customer service experience and general bookkeeping/accounting knowledge
  • Enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education and Concordia University Chicago

Education Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Certification or training in related discipline is a plus
