Department Summary

The CSUSB Police Department was established in Jan. 23, 1974, and is a full service, California POST-certified law enforcement agency that employs 19 sworn police officers and active support staff for the service and protection of the campus community on a 24/7/365 basis. The department is responsible for the 471-acre northern San Bernardino campus and also for the surrounding area including the campus and outlying residential, canyon, and foothills. The peace officers of this department have a statewide police authority and are vested with law enforcement powers and responsibilities, identical to the municipal police or sheriff's departments in our community.

The Police Department strives to provide "Quality Service" by providing professional service with honor, integrity, and a commitment to excellence to the community. We perform our mission through diligent crime prevention, victim assistance, and emergency response preparedness. We believe campus safety is a community effort and embrace a community partnership and problem-oriented policing philosophy. We strive daily to live by our department motto, "Campus Safety through Service."


Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Police Chief and Police Lieutenant, the Police Dispatcher primary responsibilities, include but are not limited to: receive information, complaints, requests, and signals from a variety of communication equipment; evaluate information received, determine a proper course of action, and disseminate information; handle police, parking, and other types of radio traffic; maintain all information in a computer-aided dispatch system and perform other duties as assigned.

*A pool of qualified candidates will be established for current and future vacancies. Qualified applicants will be kept active from January 1, 2022 through June 30, 2022.



Work Schedule:

Work schedule consists of shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays.



Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess one year of verifiable experience using switchboard and two-way radio communication system in a law enforcement or comparable agency in the last ten years.

Preferred Qualifications
  • P.O.S.T approved and certified Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate is desired.

Key Qualifications
  • Must have completed or be able to attend and successfully complete, the Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Dispatch Course. Candidates who, upon hire, do not possess a P.O.S.T. Dispatcher Certificate will be required to pass a written test related to essential dispatching skills.
  • Must have the ability to accurately interpret written policies, follow oral and written instructions, and transfer information such as rules of the FCC and 10-Code.
  • Must have the ability to independently respond and act quickly, accurately evaluate information and situations, and make appropriate decisions in routine, non-routine, and emergency situations.
  • Must have the ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
  • Selected candidates must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, written exam, pre-employment medical examination, psychological examination, which requires fingerprinting and background (including criminal record) check.

Salary:

*Salary commensurate with the background and experience of the individual selected.

Classification Range: $3,120.00 - $5,602.00 monthly

Supplemental Information

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position.
