The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in sacred music studies in the Organ Department.  The successful candidate will be an accomplished organist and church musician with strong pedagogical skill in teaching a variety of disciplines associated with sacred music, will be able to work collegially with other faculty, and will be able to inspire gifted young organists in a professionally-oriented educational environment.

Responsibilities: Teach courses related to sacred music:  undergraduate and graduate service playing, keyboard skills, improvisation, the history of worship and sacred music, the philosophy and practice of the sacred musician’s vocation, and mentoring students in sacred-music related projects.

Qualifications: Church Musician of national/international prominence with demonstrated abilities associated with sacred music practitioners of the highest caliber:  organ performance, with an emphasis on service playing and improvisation; choral conducting with broad knowledge of repertoire and vocal training for all ages; the ability to develop and teach a broadly-based curriculum touching on all aspects of the sacred musician’s vocation, from liturgical and hymnological studies to various aspects of professional development and leadership. Master’s degree in music required, doctorate preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

Salary and Rank: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The committee encourages senior applicants whose years of professional experience will be considered equivalent to comparable tenure in a university setting.
