Augustana University invites applications for a 10-month, full-time assistant or associate professor in the Department of English and Journalism beginning in August 2022. 

Responsibilities:  The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts environment, will specialize in composition and rhetoric as well as the digital humanities, and will possess expertise in media innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, the preferred candidate will participate in the following initiatives as set forth by the AU 2030 Vision:

  • Bridge programs, including summer offerings, for developing writers.
  • Multimedia classes and projects associated with the university’s new Midco Media Campus & Midco Production Center, as well as a willingness to learn AVID.
  • Courses and research associated with multicultural studies.

 

The successful candidate may contribute to courses in the First-Year Seminar program, SOPHIA (the core curriculum, which includes literature courses), and the Civitas Honors Program. 

The typical load for members of the department is three courses per semester, plus a course in two out of every three January terms.   

Qualifications: Completed Ph.D. preferred; masters and sufficient professional experience considered. Evidence of teaching excellence and scholarly productivity expected; willingness to engage in research and service; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and a commitment to serving the campus and broader professional community.

Salary:  Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience; excellent fringe benefits are included.
