Assistant Professor in Early Childhood Special Education (Tenure Track, F0736A1)

The Old Dominion University Department of Communication Disorders and Special Education invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Special Education (10-month tenure track with summer teaching possible) to start in Fall, 2022. This program offers undergraduate endorsement as well as Master’s and Ph.D. degrees. Job responsibilities encompass teaching, research, and service. Specifically, this position entails teaching special education courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or doctoral level using a variety of course delivery options; engagement in scholarly research and writing; pursuit of external funding; and participating in service activities supporting the University, community, and profession.

Qualifications

• Required Qualifications:
  1. Earned doctorate in Special Education or related field, or ABD with verification of degree completion by August 2022;
  2. Evidence of scholarly productivity; expertise in educational programming for children with disabilities;
  3. Teaching experience with diverse cultural, ethnic, and disability groups; and strong verbal, written, and technology skills.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Degree with an emphasis on Early Childhood Special Education (Birth to 6);
  • Developed or potential to develop a robust research agenda;
  • Evidence of or demonstrated potential to obtain external funding;
  • Expertise in evidence-based educational programming and assessment for children with disabilities from birth to age 6;
  • Teaching experience in settings that serve young children with disabilities;
  • College/university teaching experiences, including technology delivered instruction;
  • Experience with advising and mentoring of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students;
  • Interdisciplinary collaborative efforts involving public schools, postsecondary institutions, and/or community agencies; and
  • Participation in accreditation review processes and program governance.
