The Manager of the Student Center Operations manages the daily needs and functions of the student center and promotes the student center as the center of the campus community. The Director works with various constituencies to ensure the faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members have a positive and rewarding experience within the student center. The Director is also responsible for keeping the University Center calendar and for scheduling all spaces and events in the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement and supervise effective customer-oriented systems and procedures for facility scheduling, event planning, facility arrangements, technical support, custodial services and building maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Student Center staff including the Hospitality Manager, Conference Coordinator and student staff, Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems/issues.
  • Establish and implement short-range and long-range Student center goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitor and evaluate programmatic and operational effectiveness, and implement changes required for improvement – all which are consistent with University policy and the University mission.
  • Coordinate and administer Student Center budgets and supervise the day-to-day fiscal controls of the building,
  • Collaborate with Hospitality Manager in marketing the facilities to both internal and external clients.
  • Develop and promote programs, services, and the mission of the Student Center to support and encourage maximum use of the building.
  • Administer the university reservations systems policies and procedures.
  • Maintain Student Center calendar and scheduling of all university activities in the facility.
  • Operate Student Center information desk or Student Center information electronic kiosk.
  • Provide services for conference guests. Serve as liaison for campus guests to all support departments on campus.
  • Coordinate and implement Emergency Action Planning procedures and crisis management.
  • Serve on University committees as needed.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as necessary and encourage professional development in staff members.
  • While performing the duties of this job employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be bale to operate all computer equipment, copier, facsimile machine, printer, and telephone system.
  • The successful candidate must also have at least 3 years of supervisory and communication, along with the ability to wok collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and the outside community.
  • Strong leadership, management and organizational skills for multi-level functionalities.
  • Responsible for the safety of own work area, the are currently working in, and attention to safety displayed by direct reports.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing as to work requirements, work in progress, work completion and status of departmental goals.
•Communicate verbally and in writing with students, staff, administrators, faculty, outside community and vendors.
•Have the ability to utilize active listening skills to ascertain areas of need, define problems, and determine possible solutions to meet expressed needs.
•Responsible for the safety of own work area, the area currently working in, and attention to safety displayed by direct reports.
•The successful candidate must also have at least 3 years of supervisory and communication, along with the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, administrators and the outside community.
•Must be able to demonstrate leadership, tact, diplomacy, professionalism and a positive demeanor in performance of all duties.
•Most work is complex and requires a high level of judgment.
•Requires the ability to decide on a course or sequence of action and to direct others in that course of action.
•Must have continuous visual and mental attention while performing responsibilities of the position.
•Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
•Must be able to reasonably envision future needs and plan accordingly.
•Candidate will be exposed to minimal hazards in the office environment.
•A valid driver’s license is a must.
•Some evening and weekend work required.

Preferred Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree in related field is required.
•A Master’s degree in higher education administration, student personnel or a related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education/experience.
•Additionally, 5-7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified are required with preference given to candidates that have a strong background in running a student center/student union, event planning or conferencing.
