Job Summary and Duties

The Department of Psychology and Counseling at The University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor of Psychology position to start Fall 2022. This is a full-time position with a nine-month academic year appointment in the Department of Psychology and Counseling within the College of Education and Psychology at the University of Texas at Tyler. The new assistant or associate professor will begin by teaching courses in our Bachelor of Science (BS), Bachelor of Arts (BA), and/or Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) programs and conducting research in their topic area. Eventually, our new faculty would supervise research in our new Master of Science in Psychological Sciences program (beginning Fall 2023) and contribute to the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology.

This new faculty will be a member of our Psychological Science Program and the duties will include teaching graduate courses, and supervising graduate research, including chairing thesis committees. Candidates should be prepared to teach courses such as a range of master's and doctoral level statistics and methods courses, as well as courses in the areas of biological psychology or neuroscience and cognitive psychology. The assistant or associate professor should also maintain active research agendas, preferably incorporating master's-level students. They will also be expected to work collaboratively with department and college colleagues on service endeavors. The Department of Psychology and Counseling has a strong commitment to achieving equity, diversity, and inclusion among faculty and staff. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of underrepresented groups and strongly encourage women, persons of color, and other underrepresented groups to apply for this position.

We especially seek candidates interested in joining a department with a new Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology with specialization in biological psychology, cognition, and quantitative methods. Our program represents different specializations, including social psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and/or quantitative methods. Candidates will mentor graduate students in dissertation research, pursue external funding opportunities, and must meet UT Tyler requirements for the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

Screening of applicants will be conducted on a rolling basis: we plan to conduct the first round of interviews by December 31, 2021. We would like this new faculty member to join our faculty September 1, 2022.
