Job Description

The Integrated Security Education and Research Center (ISERC) seeks an Senior Associate Director to coordinate programs in support of Integrated Security Education and Research Center (ISERC). In this position, the successful candidate will create, integrate, supervise, and develop integrated security project. This position will work in support of the ISERC Director. This is a hybrid position with some in-person time devoted to Blacksburg, VA required. The Assistant Director will assist in leading projects in the areas of integrated security content development, faculty engagement, staff coordination, supervision, and running simulations. The person in this position will work with faculty and staff to produce/create simulations and case studies that will be used in a variety of classes, learning environments, and competitions across disciplines including, but not limited to, programs in the Corps of Cadets and other related duties as assigned by the ISERC director. This is a restricted position with future years contingent on funding, with at least three years guaranteed.
The Integrated Security Education and Research Center (ISERC) is a new facility designed to blend science, technology, policy, and ethics across homeland security, national security, and cybersecurity domains. You will join the ISERC director, Virginia Tech faculty, and a team of graduate and undergraduate students who are enthusiastic, innovative, and interested in all things related to integrated security.
The Senior Associate Director will create and assist with the development of scenarios for integrated security simulations, customizing deployments of simulation platforms, coordinating with various faculty, coordinate schedule for simulations, assist faculty and staff with running simulations, lead other ISERC staff and students, and work with industry personnel, government employees, and university members.
Specific responsibilities include the following:
(1) Assist in overseeing all aspects of the ISERC program (e.g. assessment/evaluation, classroom content, out of class learning experiences, assignments, development of new offerings).
(2) Assist in the development and implementation of integrated academic and support programs that increase student success, retention and persistence (e.g. First-Year Interest Groups).
(3) Participate on committees and working groups focused on student success, retention, and persistence as needed.
(4) Coordinate with faculty and other stakeholders for course content creation and assist with research projects.
(5) Work on program development including identifying and pursuing funding (e.g., grants).
(6) Coordinate broad scale security initiatives that build processes and tools for mitigating risk, and efficiently meeting the security requirements of the university
(7) Research new technologies to upgrade and improve monitoring systems and policies.
(8) Create, manage, review, and test standard operating procedures involved in the defensive operations.
(9) Other responsibilities as assigned by the ISERC Director.
Qualified candidates will be creative and enthusiastic. We are particularly interested in hiring personnel with experience with cybersecurity and content development in either the private or public sector.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a field relevant to cybersecurity, or major with a cybersecurity minor; or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with experience which may equate to an advanced degree
• Project management experience
• Experience with general defensive operating skills, including log analysis, network forensics, host forensics, AV analysis, incident response and timelining
• Must demonstrate an ability to set and manage multiple priorities, tasks, and deadlines simultaneously
• Ability to identify both tactical and strategic solutions
• Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
• Ability to work across disciplines; Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with a diverse set of stakeholders, including faculty and industry partners
• Experience managing a broad range of people (at different levels), from across service lines both inside and outside of your area of technical expertise
• Ability to lead and grow a multifunctional cybersecurity organization
• Ability to work independently to meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the cybersecurity field
• Experience managing or working in a Security Operations Center (SOC)
• Experience developing cybersecurity content
• Cybersecurity credentials and/or certificates
• Experience with working in higher education
• Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Active security clearance
