Job Description:
The Department of Botany and Plant Ecology at Weber State University invites applications for a tenure-track position, with the appointment to begin in July 2022. We seek a person broadly trained in plant physiology who focuses on either plant molecular and cellular biology or plant structure and function.

Job Duties:
The successful candidate will be appointed at the Assistant Professor level and will be expected to 1) teach upper division courses in plant physiology and either plant cell biology and/or plant anatomy, 2) teach lower division courses as department needs require, 3) establish an active and sustained research program that includes mentoring undergraduate students, 4) coordinate use of the department’s growth chambers, 5) attempt to secure external funding in support of teaching and/or research, 6) contribute to the development of new departmental and interdisciplinary courses and curricula, and 7) develop collaborations with colleagues in Botany and Plant Ecology and in other departments at Weber State University.

Required Qualifications:

• A Ph.D. in plant physiology or a related field. Candidates who expect to complete a Ph.D. by August 29, 2022 will also be considered.
• Ability to teach plant physiology and either plant cell biology and/or plant anatomy
• Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level
• A demonstrated commitment to high-quality research, to mentoring undergraduate researchers, and to integrating research into the classroom

Preferred Qualifications:

• Seeking candidates with excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience or interest in teaching plant genetics and/or plant development
• Experience in successful grantsmanship
• Evidence of successful undergraduate mentorship
• Experience and/or interest in using innovative, high-impact teaching strategies
• Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in STEM and higher education
• Postdoctoral position or other relevant experience

Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.

Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
