Job Description:   The Vice President of Academic Affairs will serve as the Campus Academic and Student Affairs Officer of the college and is expected to provide the educational and administrative leadership to achieve a high standard of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning, student development, academic support, and faculty and staff professional growth.    The Vice President of Academic Affairs will provide the vision and overall guidance for policy formulation, educational planning, and new program development in an integrated instructional and academic support setting. The Vice President of Academic Affairs will report to the college president and may serve as the CEO in the president’s absence, serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet, and serve as a Faculty Shared Governance administrative representative.

Examples of Duties:
  1. Lead, direct and support instructional, and student services units in the planning, development and evaluation of curriculum, services and programs in order to ensure that, academic program, student development, and student support needs are met.
  2. Develop credit and non-credit course offerings and the total schedule so that classes are available to meet student demand and that faculty is assigned effectively. Further, develop schedules of student services which meet the needs of continuing, new and prospective students (i.e., registration, orientation, counseling, student life activities) and optimize staff utilization.
  3. Develop annual budgets for academic affairs and student services divisions. Plan and monitor expenses so that spending is within the approved allocation.
  4. Provide supervision , evaluation and professional development for the administrative , faculty and support staff assigned to instructional, academic support, and student services units.
  5. Develop new programs which meet the needs of public and private agencies, in addition to expanding joint programs and articulation agreements with other educational institutions.
  6. Provide leadership to the overall planning and decision- making process for the campus, and interactions with the greater community.
  7. Participate in system-wide planning and resource development as they relate to instruction, student affairs, and academic support services.
  8. Participate in statewide and national organizations and conferences.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Master’s degree
  • Type and Length of Experience: 
  • At least one year of experience in higher education academic leadership at the two-year college dean level or equivalent
  • Experience in a higher education institution that offers technical programs
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Experience with developing, implementing, and supporting innovative best practice learning experience
  • Experience with regional accreditation processes and use of program review Experience developing and administering budgets
  • Experience supervising faculty
  • Demonstrated success in promoting the values of faculty governance and participative management
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion of and sensitivity to diversity among students, faculty and staff
  Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: 
  • Doctorate degree
  •  Type and Length of Experience: 
  • At least three years of higher education academic leadership at the two-year college dean level or higher
  • Experience in strategic planning, resource management and the development of institutional funding priorities
  • Demonstrated record of continuous quality improvement, use of data for decision making, and establishment of metrics for evaluating initiatives
  • Experience with online learning and use of technology in the classroom
  • Experience in developing partnerships with K-12 systems, institutions offering baccalaureate degrees, and business
  • Proven record of grant development and acquisition of external funding Demonstrated record of facilitating professional development among faculty and staff
  • Higher education teaching experience
  • Experience with collective bargaining in a college environment
