Job Description

The National Museum of Toys and Miniatures is seeking a detail-oriented, candidate to fulfill the role of Visitor Services Representative.

Job purpose

The purpose of this role is to support T/m’s mission, strategic, and DEAI goals by providing exceptional hospitality and visitor experiences to all individuals and groups visiting the museum. The Visitor Services Representative sells admissions and Museum Store merchandise, answers questions, and provides visitor access to amenities. The ideal candidate will possess an optimistic, welcoming attitude as well as strong attention to detail, communication, multi-tasking, problem-solving skills, and ability to work collaboratively with other museum staff.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Preserve visitor safety as well as store and gallery security
  • Sell museum admissions and Museum Store merchandise
  • Process online customer orders and online store inventory
  • Assist with Museum Store merchandising, restocking, straightening inventory, and receiving orders
  • Answer visitor questions about the collection and deliver general museum tours when needed
  • Maintain work areas—front desk, public spaces, interactives and surfaces of gallery cases, and volunteer spaces
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
  • This position requires sitting, standing, and walking for long periods of time on hard floors
  • This position frequently requires bending, kneeling, and stretching
  • Must be able to lift at least 30lbs, unassisted
  • This position requires daily glass, plexi-glass, and surface dusting and/or cleaning
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 year minimum experience in a retail, cash-handling, and customer service, required
  • Ability to operate a PC computer to process Point of Sale transactions and use standard Windows-based software programs, such as Microsoft Office
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking
Full Time/Part Time

28 hours per week including Saturdays and Sundays with some occasional evenings


Position hourly rate starts at $10.50/hour, with a potential max of $15/hour,. Salary is based on education, equity and experience.
