About the Department

The new Office of Instructional Programs within the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost oversees the programmatic planning and implementation of academic and non-academic instructional programs at NC State. The creation of this office coincides withstructural changes within the Provost's Officethat will further the university's mission and support achieving goals set forth in Wolfpack 2030: Powering the Extraordinary, NC State's new strategic plan.

The Office of Instructional Programs will help NC State continue to attract the world's best undergraduate and graduate students and provide them with a cutting-edge education through effective academic planning. It will also support academic excellence through university-wide programs that enrich the entire university community. Units within the Office of Instructional Programs include the following: McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education, Digital Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA), Office of Assessment and Accreditation, Institute for Advanced Analytics, academic program planning including new degree programs and dual degree programs, and other select university-wide academic programs.

TheMcKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education(MCE&CE), with 104 employees, positively impacts individuals, organizations and communities of North Carolina, the nation and world through the development and delivery of market-driven continuing and lifelong education programs and services.MCE&CE functional units include: the McKimmon Conference and Training Center, the Office of Professional Development, Customized Training and Development, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the Center for Urban Affairs and Community Services, The Collaborative and the Upper Coastal Plain Learning Council, along with several areas that support financial, marketing, print and building operations.

DELTA, with 106 employees, fosters the integration and support of digital learning in NC State's academic programs, and supports online and distance education programs at the university. Five functional units make upDELTA: Finance and Business, Online and Distance Education, Academic Technology, Digital Learning, and Marketing and Communications.

TheOffice of Assessment and Accreditation(OAA), with four employees, supports NC State's strategic mission by promoting continuous improvement, student success, and commitment to effectiveness and excellence through the facilitation of campus-wide assessment and accreditation processes.OAAleads the academic and administrative outcomes assessment processes, and works collaboratively with university stakeholders to coordinate comprehensive external program review.

TheInstitute for Advanced Analytics, with 22 employees, produces the world's finest analytics and data science professionals. The Institute's academic programs seek to fill the pressing need for professionals with strong quantitative skills coupled with an understanding of how analytics can be applied with speed, accuracy and creativity to the critical challenges facing organizations.

Essential Job Duties

The Opportunity:

NC State invites applications and nominations for the position of senior vice provost for Instructional Programs. The university seeks a leader with a strong vision for academic and non-academic program planning who thinks proactively about the future of higher education and the integration of for- and not-for-credit, on- and off-campus, hybrid, and distance programming that allows for the constant evolution of our educational offerings.

The Position:

The senior vice provost has oversight for the planning and implementation of academic and non-academic programs. Additionally, the senior vice provost will provide strong leadership, strategic direction and fiscal oversight for the units within the Office of Instructional Programs.
The senior vice provost reports directly to the executive vice chancellor and provost and is responsible for the following:•

• Providing strategic planning necessary to support successful implementation and management of existing academic and non-academic programs across the university, as well as to facilitate collaboration among programs;
• Playing a key and strategic role in the academic planning process for the university, one that has a high impact on the university's performance, rankings, reputation and growth;
• Overseeing all plans to expand, create or dissolve any and all academic programs throughout the university;
• Overseeing the processes for academic program review, productivity review, academic program planning to include name andCIPcode changes, new degree programs and certificate programs, program discontinuation, dual degrees, and national and international academic MOUs;
• Strategically managing the creation of new interdisciplinary programs and academic courses through the addition of academies working collaboratively with the senior vice provost for University Interdisciplinary Programs;
• Implementing new academic and non-academic initiatives as a result of strategic planning including micro-credentialing and life-long learning;
• Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance NC State's competitiveness by supporting cutting-edge pedagogical approaches throughout the university to attract the best and brightest faculty and students; and
• Overseeing and directing various units, includingDELTA, Continuing Education, Assessment and Accreditation, and the Institute for Advanced Analytics.

Other Responsibilities

Minimum Education and Experience

• Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree with a minimum of three (3) years or greater of related professional experience, or a relevant undergraduate degree and a minimum of five (5) years or greater of relevant experience may be substituted for the advanced degree.
• A minimum of ten years experience in higher education is required

Other Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess most, if not all, of the following qualities or experience:
• Ability to play a key role in university leadership, advocating for the unit and forging advantageous and strategic connections across the university.
• Demonstrated leadership in academic planning with a proven track record of strategically implementing and managing academic and non-academic programs.
• A proven record of success in setting priorities, allocating resources and achieving specific goals.
• Outstanding communication skills, including interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation and listening capabilities.
• Ability to function in a complex, high-demand environment, balancing and executing internal and external responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Preference will be given to candidates with a doctoral or terminal degree in their field and eligible for appointment as a tenured professor.
