Sr. ERP Business Analyst

IT@JH Enterprise Business Solutions is seeking aSenior ERP Business Analyst who will be responsible for the day-to-day activities and tasks assigned to the support of SAP modules including HR/Payroll, Supply Chain, or Finance/Sponsored Projects, supporting master data elements, and interfaces with external systems. The successful candidate is responsible for the technical maintenance of the application, including system configuration and coordination with developers for custom program maintenance, and for participating in the maintenance support team response to enterprise-wide customer requests for complex problem resolution. Configurationduties may includestandard and custom table maintenance and support of Johns Hopkins enhancements and schema configuration.

The Senior ERP Business Analyst serves as the functional system expert for relevant modules and participates in the development of problem solving strategies, problem resolution, and investigation of unique/first time instances of system problems reported through the enterprise Shared Services. Applies knowledge of the SAP platform functionality and the configuration toolkit in order to translate business requirements into functional design specifications, configuration changes or initial settings, module-relevant security settings, and reporting options.

The Senior ERP Business Analyst is required to understand all relevant levels impacted by the SAP system including business processes and reporting requirements, the user interface, ancillary technologies (3rd party applications supporting SAP), the configuration toolset, and a strong understanding of tables, fields, and the function of source code. Additionally, must understand the integration of the software platform and implication of module changes on other module functionality, master data impacted, security and development solutions.

The position requires the ability to support periodic system upgrades and enhancements, understand the impact to the current functionality, test Johns Hopkins functionality in the upgraded release, and communicate impacts to the team and the Enterprise.

Scope of work is at an enterprise-wide level with typical projects impacting the broader customer base of Johns Hopkins and its most mission critical systems. Projects will include large scale-integration with a vast, very complex, and highly distributed network infrastructure. Projects often require interaction with various departments and teams both within and outside of the IT@JH department.

The Senior ERP Business Analyst is a member of the Enterprise Business Solutions (EBS) group within IT@Johns Hopkins and supports the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins Health System. The Senior ERP Business Analyst reports to an ERP Manager.

Expectations of the Senior ERP Business Analyst include support/maintenance responsibility for significant functions in the software (e.g. HR Schemas, SRM Organizational Structures, etc.). High-level understanding of ABAP coding is expected. The Senior ERP Business Analyst must have Project Management experience and experience leading initiatives, workgroups, and major assignments. Leadership skills are a requirement.

General summary/purposeSenior ERP Analyst for Personnel Administration and Organizational Management is responsible for configuration of the SAP module to include; Analysis, Configuration, Implementation, Support, and Maintenance.

Specific duties & responsibilitiesSenior ERP Analyst works closely with HR Shared Services and HR business owners throughout the enterprise to deliver HR related technologies.

The Sr. ERP Analyst completes production unplanned support items. The team works in an agile hybrid scrum environment. Analysts attend scrum meetings to update the internal team on project status. Analysts are responsible for assisting in planning and estimating of their project work and logging their time to the respective projects.

The PA/OM pod works with employee master data in several systems including SAP Personnel Administration and Organizational Management, Mendix for the completion of employment actions, SAP Fiori applications for maintaining some infotypes, Winshuttle for mass uploads, Mana for position creation/maintains, and other supporting systems.

This position supports SAP and employee demographic technical functionality for the Enterprise including Johns Hopkins Health System and Johns Hopkins University. There are approximately 300 vendor interfaces supported by the PA/OM pod.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily support for the relevant functional/technical area within the SAP landscape (including 3rd party applications supported by EBS, integration points with complimentary systems, etc.) by recording/providing status on issues, troubleshooting/analysis of issues, identification and execution of possible solutions, testing of solutions, and monitoring of solutions in the production environment. Support should be proactive wherever possible.

  • Provide daily maintenance support for the relevant functional/technical area within the SAP landscape by recording/providing status on requests, prioritizing tasks or working with management to clarify prioritization, executing maintenance activities, coordinating testing of maintenance activities, and coordinating the application of maintenance activities to the production environment.

  • Provide support for the enhancement of functionality of the SAP landscape in the form of participation in design discussions and requirement gathering opportunities, analysis, identification of options, presentation of options/considerations, coordination with other functional/technical EBS and IT teams, testing options in coordination with business users, documentation of design, testing, and acceptance, and production support of enhancements. Enhancement requests are prioritized and managed through traditional IT project management principles.

  • Provide periodic support for the Johns Hopkins SAP training environment

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business Administration, or relevant functional area.

  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for degree.*

  • Five or more years progressively responsible experience working in functional area or systems analysis, with minimum four years SAP experience. Some configuration experience required.

  • Experience working on at least one full lifecycle SAP implementation.

  • Self-motivated, self-supervised and solution driven.

  • Experience configuring in SAP Personnel Administration and Organizational Management modules.
  • Experience in leading projects, leading meetings with business representatives to discuss requirements, consult on system best practices, manage project expectations, and deliver quality functionality.

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • JHU/JHHS business practice experience.

  • Experience providing technical solutions in a higher-ed, academic medical center, and/or health care setting.

  • 6-8 years experience in complex system environments including SAP modules.

  • Experience working on two or more full lifecycle SAP implementations (or significant upgrade experiences), preferably in a public sector organizations,external to Johns Hopkins.

  • Experience in more than one SAP Business Suite and/or NetWeaver module.

  • Experience in other SAP or SuccessFactors Modules

  • Advanced knowledge of system processes and configuration in SAP to support and lead problem identification and resolution.

  • Microsoft Office Software skills (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Deep application knowledge in at least one major process area, with working knowledge of applications in at least one other major process area.

  • Capable of participating in a dialog with users/customers, understand the nature of the request being made, provide timely feedback to the customer.

Request Tracking/Status Reporting Skills:

  • Detailed in tracking and reporting status of issues/maintenance requests/enhancement requests to users and management.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and with members of other functional/technical teams to identify action items, team member responsibilities, etc.

Independent Work:

  • Ability to work independently on assignments, requesting assistance as needed, and proactively complete assignments independently

Issue Severity/Independent Prioritization of Tasks:

  • Capability of understanding severity of reported/observed issues and properly respond to issues based on severity

Computer Skills:

  • Ability to use software applications such as MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Access, and other productivity and/or data manipulation tools to provide requested data, stage data for loading, etc.

System Modifications:

  • Ability to understand possible impacts to changes to a highly integrated system, determine the depth/breadth of testing necessary to minimize risk of system changes, execute and record results of testing (including data staging), etc

Project Management:

  • Ability to function within a structured project management environment.
  • Ability to effectively plan and execute larger projects while also being able to execute tasks within the context of a more complex project plan.
  • Ability to utilize project management software such as MS Project for planning and tracking purposes.
