The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity (JHCHE) is looking for a Research Data Manager to primarily assist the newly funded Mid-Atlantic Center for Cardiometabolic Health Equity (MACCHE) with data management activities. JHCHE and MACCHE work to promote equity in health for at-risk populations through advancing scientific knowledge, promoting sustainable changes in practice and policy, partnering with communities, raising public awareness of health inequities, and training scholars. Center research teams use patient and broad stakeholder engagement and apply principles of community-based participatory research to refine and adapt intervention protocols and materials to the needs of participating organizations, clinic sites, and populations.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigators and the Director of the Shared Resources Core, the incumbent will be responsible for participating in the planning and execution of all data management activities that support the overall work of and research studies within the Center. Reports to: Kathryn A. Carson, ScM

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create (design, build, and test) electronic data capture (REDCap) databases for studies within the Center.
  • Create recruitment and participant tracking databases and reports in REDCap.
  • Manage and update study databases prospectively.
  • Write reports and queries for data validation, cleaning and quality assurance in REDCap.
  • Create and maintain data dictionaries for datasets.
  • Import electronic medical record or claims data extracted from various sources and perform data cleaning using SAS, Stata or R.
  • Train study personnel on performing data entry and running reports using REDCap.
  • Provide weekly/monthly updates to study teams on recruitment, study follow-up and other metrics of quality control.
  • Develop standard analytical summary data files, produce descriptive reports, including tables and graphs.
  • Oversee quality control procedures for data collection/analysis.
  • Follow best practices for data management and maintaining data in a secure environment.
  • Work collaboratively with data analysts/study coordinators/staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline required. (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Requires minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
  • Additional education (Master's level) may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*.
  • Required: This position requires proficiency in REDCap and at least one statistical software, i.e., SAS, Stata, or R.

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • REDCap, Microsoft Office, and SAS, Stata or R.
  • Must be able to work with inter-related databases.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Must have excellent inter-personal communication and writing skills.
  • Experience in longitudinal data management desired.
  • Experience in health disparities and cardiovascular disease research a plus.
  • Must be able to work independently after some guidance.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks, short deadlines.

Starting Salary Range: $45,650 - $62,850 annually (commensurate with experience)

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
