Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Information Technology (IT) Data Architect will be responsible for supporting enterprise data systems through the implementation of data warehouse, data lake or data mart capabilities. This position will be expected to lead the design of the data warehouse, database architecture, data definitions, and developing ETL programs. Furthermore, this position engages with campus leadership to identify data needs, available sources, and query requirements to support business information needs.
- Responsible for overall design of enterprise information architecture and assists in developing enterprise data strategy
- Designs and builds data warehouse and database structures
- Works with stakeholders to assess data-related needs and remedy
associated technical needs
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. A minimum of five (5) years of work related to building, deploying, and supporting enterprise data architecture vision and solutions. Associate’s degree will also be acceptable with more than five (5) years of related experience
- Experience with data warehouse architecture and design, logical and physical data modeling, database design and performance testing, ETL design and development, data governance processes, and exposure to business intelligence query and reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, etc.
- Strong ability to engage with senior campus leadership to determine data and visualization need to support business operations and independently develop plans to meet proposed requirements
- High level analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to investigate complex issues and make informed decisions with sometimes minimal oversight
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, willingness to learn and adopt new technologies, and capable of both leading projects and performing hands-on technical work
- The IT Data Architect will need both strong forward outlook and hands-on technical skills
- Five (5) years or more experience as a Database Administrator
- Three (3) years or more experience in the following areas: data warehousing, ETLs, Oracle RDBMS and Microsoft SQL Server
- Experience with data integration, meta data management, data
governance, and data security, integrity, and access control
protocols

The Department of Enterprise Systems Support is a part of Information Technology Services ( ITS ) of the University of North Carolina Wilmington. ITS is an innovative organization committed to providing a technologically progressive environment for students, faculty and staff. The Department of Enterprise Systems Support is responsible for systems analysis, design, programming, and support for enterprise and vendor applications.
The Department of ESS provides:
- Innovative, stable, cost effective and secure technical support and maintenance of enterprise solutions to the campus community
- Day to day support for production applications and systems
- Timely implementation of upgrades and releases
- Development and analysis to support the operational requirements and mandates for production applications and systems
- User access for production applications
