Job Summary
Provide one on one instruction in various self-paced courses in the Writing Center. Assist writers from all disciplines with grammar, writing, speech. Other tasks might include tutoring, answering the Grammar Hotline, responding to Online Writing Lab (OWL) submissions, rectifying software issues, fill in at reception desk. Proficient with digital educational tools--Canvas (LMS), ZOOM. Able to support student technology needs, including assistive technology needs, accessing and utilizing Google Stumail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Papercut, MyJCCC. Assistance with basic computer literacy including Windows file management and Microsoft Office. May earn CRLA certification by participating in tutor training.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in English, Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Center Theory, Education, TESOL or closely related discipline required (or at least 15 graduate hours in one of these subjects, which would certify a candidate in the state of Kansas)
Excellent written and oral communication skills a must
Will need to use standard office equipment
Proficient with use of personal computers
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching at the Community College level
Ability to work with diverse groups
Experience working in a tutor capacity
