The Operations and Advancement team oversees a wide variety of responsibilities including facilitating external partnership opportunities, fundraising efforts as long-term mutually beneficial financial success, community engagement, government relations, and new development.  The Advancement team’s objective is to build and strengthen the ten initiatives that work together as an ecosystem to support the three wildly important goals of the university: expand the appeal of campus, enhance student success, and develop our people.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Hispanic Serving Institution, Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) seeks a dynamic, bold, and entrepreneurial development professional to serve as our Regional Development Associate and facilitate the advancement of Vision 2028 through fundraising, grant writing, and outreach. The position serves as a connector, fundraiser, and writer who understands how to serve traditionally under-represented students through researching and cultivating new revenue streams, writing grant proposals both public and private, and growing opportunities and reputation for the university in Metro Denver and nationally. The position is housed in the Office of Operations and Advancement, is based along the front range of Colorado, and requires travel periodically to Denver and Pueblo. This position will:  

  • Execute our new shared vision by ensuring that CSU Pueblo: A) Remains accessible and affordable, B) Develops people, and C) Designs learning and support systems that support enhanced experiential education, soft skill development, and personalized advising and mentoring which will improve educational outcomes such as enrollment, retention, graduation, and career placement.
  • Provide innovative and transparent donor development and advocate for the learning and support systems needed to ensure student success and financial sustainability for the university.  
  • Research and  identify  new  private and public  philanthropic  prospects  through  researching background information,  outreach,  creating information plans,  and developing materials. 
  • Build new  relationships  with alumni,  corporate  partners,  and  regional  partners  of  CSU Pueblo.


REGULARLY PERFORMED JOB DUTIES

Fundraising Activities

  • Support  large-scale  fundraising  efforts  with  donors/investors  in  Denver, Colorado,  the front  range,  and  outside  of  Colorado. 
  • Grow and secure opportunities  at  the  $2,500-$25,000 level,  writing competitive grant  proposals,  and  supporting the  team’s public/government  funding opportunities  that  exceed $1M+.   
  • Ensure predetermined  fundraising objectives  and  goals  are  met.  Develop university  reports  for  a  diverse audience that  include statistics  of fundraising goals,  current  cultivation strategies,  and development outcomes.   
  • Craft compelling written, digital, and/or oral proposals for solicitation to individual, corporate, and/or foundation donors or investment prospects. 

Reputation Building 

  • Increase CSU Pueblo’s visibility and reputation by engaging with alumni, friends of the university, and corporate partners in Metro Denver through events, meetings, individual relationship building, and cultivation.  
  • Connect with prospects (preferably through independent research) and create new contacts in the database; effectively convey CSU Pueblo’s mission and how contributions support our cause.  

Ancillary Duties

  • Assist with CSU Pueblo Operations and Advancement projects as needed 
  • Travel 
  • Other duties as assigned.

This is a grant funded position, renewable annually, based on budgetary approvals and renewal of Vision Program grant funding.

 

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Demonstrated success in building a new donor portfolio through research and/or a record of fundraising accomplishments in higher education, non-profit, and/or government advancement operations
  • Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication; including writing small- and large-scale grants and presenting written information in a clear and persuasive manner
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising from public funding sources such as local, state, and national government entities
  • Advanced written, oral, digital and interpersonal communication skills, including interpersonal acumen necessary in order to establish and maintain positive working relationships throughout the university and with outside stakeholders and partner organizations
  • Advanced ability to make persuasive and compelling oral and written presentations of immediate university goals/objectives and long-term development needs

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree
  • Membership in Council Advancement Secondary Education (CASE) and/or Association of Fundraising Professionals
  • Extensive training or certifications in fundraising methods and best practices
  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge
  • Familiarity with Metro Denver companies and foundations
  • Previous experience in both private and public fundraising, annual giving, estate planning, and alumni engagement.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting in development, engagement, or fundraising roles
