Job Summary

The Drexel University’s Department of Architecture, Design & Urbanism invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track (TT) or renewable-term/non-tenure-track faculty (NTT) position beginning September 1, 2022, teaching in the core curriculum of the Architecture program. We seek an energetic individual who is committed to innovative teaching, practice-based research, and critical design inquiry. The ideal candidate will teach courses centered around integrated design studio, performance-driven design, and advanced building technology. Their practice and applied research should focus on architectural work integrating innovative solutions as well as sustainable design and construction, advanced building performance, building materials and technologies. Expertise in digital representation and/or fabrication, and architectural technology (materials & methods, building systems, electrical & lighting, structures) are advantageous.

We are interested in expanding our expertise in practice-based research and application in the fields of sustainability, performative analysis, design-build, and advanced construction methodologies by developing sponsored or applied studios and other interdisciplinary initiatives, collaborations or competitions centered around integrated architectural design. The candidate will pursue projects with the potential for sponsored design-build studios and industry partnerships in collaboration with other disciplines that connect the relevance of integrated design and studio work with the challenges faced by our profession and the world.

Essential Functions
  • Teaching and coordinating integrated design studio and technology classes.
  • Developing opportunities for students to immerse themselves in experiential learning and applied research to advance architectural excellence.
  • Service to the Department, the College, and the profession.
Required Qualifications

This position calls for candidates highly qualified to offer college-level instruction in the broad spectrum of comprehensive design, integrated building systems and technologies relevant to contemporary practice. Applicants should possess a professional degree in architecture and/or engineering. Professional licensure, a minimum of 5 years of professional design and practice experience, and a clear interest in applied research are highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to integrate research interests, creative work, or professional practice into their teaching. Expertise in remote teaching and learning is desired as we calibrate remote and/or hybrid instructional formats for our part-time evening students and explore the potential of future program offers. Other pertinent qualifications might include experience with:
  • Sustainable building-systems technologies, performative modeling and analysis.
  • Design/build practice.
  • Design and construction assembly in an academic setting.
  • Emerging materials and advanced methods of construction.
  • Demonstrated ability to bridge design and building technology.
