Job Description:

The Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering at the University of Florida invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track, full-time, position at the rank of Assistant Engineer, with a working title of Instructional Assistant Professor in the Engineering Education Department (EED).

Duties and responsibilities include teaching, revising, and developing undergraduate and graduate engineering courses, hands-on programming related educational laboratories, and may include both online as well as face-to-face instruction in computer programming. In addition, the position involves aspects of service and/or outreach activities at local, university, state, and national level, as directed by the department chair. EED is specifically looking for faculty with a passion for teaching and a desire to develop a career in pedagogy of engineering education. Teaching assignments will be made according to background and experience and will be six to eight course sections per year (twelve-month appointment) based on mutual agreements. Submission and funding of grants focused on engineering education is encouraged.

The University of Florida is embarking on an initiative on Digital Literacy developing requisite tools and promoting Digital Responsibility by managing the human impact of the coming transformation of society. The Engineer position will be primarily for teaching Computer Programming for Engineers (MATLAB and C++) and service related to promotion of the importance of programming education and awareness across multiple levels of the broader community.

Expected Salary:

Salary to commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in related engineering field or M.S. in engineering or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in related engineering field, experienced in applying evidence-based teaching techniques and methods to engineering courses, specifically computer programming. The ideal candidate would have experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in their respective engineering field.
